Mail from Photobucket:
Shawn (Photobucket Customer Support Home) Sep 24 09:59 pm (MDT) Hello. The decision to scramble all URLs (i.e. randomize file names) was done to ensure the privacy of all customer's images. Photobucket has listened to the concerns that our users expressed, especially those using Photobucket for business purposes. As a result, it is again the customer's option to scramble OR maintain the original file names of new uploads. Some additional information can be found in this article: http://support.photobucket.com/entries/21822222 Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Shawn Emphasis mine. Since, tested upload and getting [if set so] overwrite warnings of newly uploaded copy to indicate the file is already known. The use of one of the many shortlinks to the charts, most popular http://bit.ly/WCGDSH seems though to *not* work, neither the direct links do: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q210/Sekerob/WCGDashboard.png . Others work fine such as http://bit.ly/WCGPF2 which goes to the HPF2 Performance chart and show here a chart through 24.9.12 . Work still to be done... To be continued. |

sigh... usual stuff for "big" companies that think they got enough customers.
----------------------------------------if their other *customers* want to scramble, then they should go to their control panels and set this option ON. i do not understand by PB messes* up the work of other *customers* who don't give a **** about scrambling SekeRob, thanks for providing the best DC charts ever since 2005 ![]() update: sent them a "Request #135302" to add this option via http://support.photobucket.com/anonymous_requests/new *edited to appropriate forum language - ErikaT ---------------------------------------- [Edit 3 times, last edit by ErikaT at Sep 25, 2012 11:39:44 AM] |

Hi SekeRob,
----------------------------------------I got the exact same reply to my support question at Photobucket. Glad to see the setting scrable on/off return. My relief was short lived however, when I saw the NOTE under the setting: "NOTE: As an extra measure of security, this feature will no longer be available beginning November 1st. At that time, file names for all new uploads will automatically be scrambled." ![]() |

Hi SNURK,
----------------------------------------that red text message above the scramble box in the privacy setting is dismaying. The functioning of direct and bit.ly links is ATM still hap-hazard. I've uploaded a fresh catalog, and can see the images without the scramble code at end, but half of the bit.ly links don't work and some of the more popular such as dashboard don't even work with a direct link. They've effective destroyed my website, my co-hosted charts access at a major climate blog [which directly gets linked to many other related blogs, and indirectly to news outlets such as the Guardian], and WCG's forum charts access. Un-acceptable. Now I'm going to write them something from what Dutch would say "on hi heels". The more that write to inundate them, the better. edit: The signature is back for me, via the bit.ly link at that. Dashboard continues to be invisible to the outside world as at 10:50 UTC.25.9.2012. Not going to pull a Jack Jones action yet, another mail, snip:
Michael (Photobucket Customer Support Home) Sep 25 12:23 pm (MDT) Sorry for the confusion. You will notice that we are updating the message on the privacy page as well. "You *will* notice...", it must be in future tense or whatever it's called in Inglese, as the offending red message about the scramble being generally applied from Nov. 1 is still there... and the Dashboard is still not accessible externally, same going for the Pie :( |

Hi Chase,
Thanks for the offer [see reply in C&S thread] To all, if you don't see a fresh [favorite] chart, or get a moved/deleted response, plz be patient, don't post and try later. We're aware at some point and then manually intervene, if we can. Cheers |
