Re: Supplemental Charts Going Under Due Their Own Success

Seems beating my own drum less does wonders sometimes, so no outages yet. Traffic dropped these past 7 days to 0.5Gb, mainly because the refreshes of most charts or now bi-daily. Cache using browser do recognize if old or new.

For those that do external links:

- Plz use the tinyurl custom links if you will... e.g. http://tinyurl.com/WCGPi1 ... how obvious and easy to remember :D
- Plz if you can cache locally, do.
- Courtesy requires mentioning of source.

Found an excellent integration into WCG science dedicated pages, made in Germany, so that tickled the fancy.

The charts have had lots of cosmetics applied, hard to see for most, but mainly many trend indicating arrows were added to the legends and more colour coding. Undecided as to make these arrows uniformly depicting the daily change from yesterday or the 21 day mean. Almost ready, can change that with the flip of a single variable. Also each performance graph has right of the TeraFlop indicator a % share of the total WCG contribution. Ideally near 11% for the currently 9 active project, but practically impossible. There are the major favorites competing for the biggest piece of the crunchy pie.

ttyl, and thanks for leaving your spare CPU cycles at WCG

Re: Supplemental Charts Going Under Due Their Own Success

There is apparently some confusion, one sorry to say, colour blindness I cannot cure. Some folk are unable to see the table of projects data below the Top Pie. First I heard it, but I too think some ISP's are doing something to the images, and for sure I know Google-Picasa does.

The other one is about the dates.

1. Most charts have a date, left bottom. This is for most charts automatic and signifies the last date for which numbers were added to the database on which the charts are build. Some charts that are infrequently updated still had that manual... those were the supplemental to the supplemental so to speak such as members growth, points versus cpu years and such. There's though a give away... the X-axis far right shows a date till at least data was included, but...

2. Why it's though thought that nothing after is included beats me. The X-Axis uses fixed intervals at which the dates are printed. One that includes 100 days cannot print all 100 dates else you get a blob that no one can decipher. So if the interval is 5 and you see June 23, June 28, July 3 it's because. The next chart depicts it more graphically [is there a pun?], June 15, July 2, the next date to show there would be... so refer to the left bottom to now how far the data reaches.

And no, there is no software that draws an X-Axis from the right to left...

So far this last installment on the rise and fall of (not Reginald Perrin ).

Re: Supplemental Charts Going Under Due Their Own Success

Try-Out. The Yo Yo effect of last days brought again the exaggerated spaghetti effect it has on the charts to the fore, particular on those that show the lines, bars and ribbons of all projects in one view. So here is something to smooth the effect a bit, a 3 day sliding mean, which still shows a fairly good current work availability impression. The legend stays the same as the old chart that shows the current day and 7 day mean numbers.

[old]

[new, replacement]

How evident is the extra load up of HCC work in the heat. Everything comes down afterwards as acute as it went up on the reconnect day and HCC staying there for a wee bit longer. RICE is clearly on the Rise.

Constructive comments and suggestions always welcome.

What's cooking:

The slideshow at google's picasaweb is seemingly smartening up and updating the images even if there are minor changes.

http://picasaweb.google.com/Sekerob/WCGrid#slideshow/5354631959799218834

AND, there's now an RSS feed for you to subscribe too, each image now telling when last refreshed

http://picasaweb.google.nl/data/feed/base/use...p;kind=photo&hl=en_GB

You can even add your comments there [and I am the chief editor] ;>)

No, not likely going to change any of the badges printed in the right bottom corner on the charts where they're shown. Bronze, Silver, Gold is just about right.

It's 39C here and it's not even high noon, so I'm minimizing any movement, too active mousing and typing causing a sweat outpour. The prize of lowering the CO2 footprint cool

Re: Supplemental Charts Going Under Due Their Own Success

" Supplemental Charts Going Under Due Their Own Success " is the title, but not quite the outcome. Found a 2nd, 3rd and 4th hoster, actually offering to absorb bandwidth, loosing daily, weekly, monthly viewing stats, but Going Under is not going to happen.

So, in the department of "Yes I Can, Therefor I will" and "Measurement is Knowledge", an American knack like they annotate missed fairways and greens, slowly maturing the Daily Quick Look, tinyurl "WCGQLK".

Where I'm going to put it in a permanent, easy to find spot, don't know yet. Till then enjoy the arrows, wiggles and data bars. Sorry for the daltonics, frequently being told I am for sure, based on the yellow socks and green shirt and red slags I'm seen walking in, as warning (LoL), the colorcodes and direction tell how well we're doing collectively compared to the previous day.

(as always, subject to change without notice ;>)

If you put out the new charts on picasa with RSS, I can download them and put it in the gallery if you like.

Re: Supplemental Charts Going Under Due Their Own Success

RSS of the WCG Quick Look table:

http://photos.googleapis.com/data/feed/base/u...o&alt=rss&q=quick

Trouble with picasa is that it simply refuses to update the images unless it recognises material change. The small daily changes do not cause this, and the bad part, deleting the images and re-uploading creates new link hashes. Anyway, if this works for you, to always get the latest of what's there in an automated fashion it would be great.
