The Swiss just needed to win to qualify. What was considered as a sure thing against Honduras did not happen. Final score 0-0 and the Swiss are eliminated. They got many opportunities but were not able to score.
----------------------------------------Again the only sure thing is that the ball is round and until the last second everything is always possible for both teams.  The other match in the same pool Spain-Chile was won by Spain 2-0. I followed in parallel the two matches last evening. In fact in our region we have a very large Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese communities, and there is also a sizeable chilean community. Spain and Chile and Portugal did make it. Spain - Chile ended 2-1 and with Chile only having 10men for most of the game. The disaster was France getting to the finals
The Swiss dominated most of the game against Honduras but could not score. At the end Honduras missed several easy chances, mostly through greedy play; their strikers did not want to pass! Unlucky to beat Spain, get 4 points and go out. Better luck in the Euros (only 2 years)! |
