David Villa has carried Spain. Do you think his back will hold out much longer?

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

The final is wish-listed as Netherlands-Spain, and as in the 80 year war **, in the end the Dutch prevailed :P

** A famous Dutch coach nicknamed The General, once supposedly said that "Football is war", but that was a fabricated quotation. He actually said that top-football was a bit like war... the decent guys loose. Later in his career he did though adopt the term. (so just googled)

We'll be 5 clicks walking over to the betting office / favorite sports bar for the big screen experience. They're going to stay open late, normally closing at 9 PM. Will have an umbrella with lots of orange beesies hung off it, they hit the mailbox 1 week ago... it's right next to the Basilica so think to be save from the Tifosi :P

Up Olanda Up

PS: Don't try mimicking the language... you'll need a TNE doctor tomorrow.

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

Medio tiempo y es mal, 0-0 sad
España me hacen mareado

- pero mejor ahora smile

This will be Spain's 1st World Cup Final. In fact Spain have never made it past the Quarter Finals before!
Neither Spain or Holland have won the World Cup.
I think this will be Holland's 3rd WC Final?
Spain and Holland have Never Played Each Other in the World Cup, or the Euros (Holland did not compete Internationally before 1958, I think)!
This is the European Champions v's the Best team to have never won the World Cup!

Finally, football is the winner

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

skgiven - your Spanis is getting better and better

Indeed, the first half was frustrating though Spain kept the ball most of the time. I think the result was fair (admitedly, I am biased).

Friday I go to Dominican Republic but I am sure I will be able to find a TV for the final game. Holland has been unstoppable and Spain unpredictable so we should have a terrific game.

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

It's good that the winner will come from one of two countries that have never won the WC before. Both teams are good enough to be winners and have a good passing game.

- 3dr place play off is on Sat (Today)! Hopefully there will be players wanting goals, but will Uruguay prevail or will Germany get another 4 goals?
