At this point we have the data we need. If you have one of the monster workunits, please feel free to abort them. I have just aborted mine as instructed above by knreed. An interesting side effect of aborting these monster WUs is that their huge runtime is not affecting the Duration Correction Factor (DCF) and therefore duration estimates of the other WUs in queue are not jumping to the sky. Back to normal sizes. Thank you for your cooperation on this test. Jean. |

BETA_ CMD2_ 0001-PP1BA.clustersOccur-TPM1A.clustersOccur_ 45_ 3-- 610 Pending Validation 4/27/09 08:39:55 5/5/09 07:02:05 108.38 1,789.9 / 0.0
Hi Jean, My monster finally completed, after 108+ hours. Pending validation, so apparently all is well...neither rain nor snow nor fpops nor overdue date stopped it. Then i noticed that they sent me 4 more monsters, with TTC of 117 hours each, but not BETA_CMD (they're for HFCC, which have normally been under 10 hours). Too bad i can't get frequent flier miles instead of points. LOL I do see that they are allocating more disk space. I'm curious...is there an optimum level for that? There's a lot of free space on the hard drive so I gave BOINC a big chunk, but usually they use a very small part of it. Thanks for talking me through the first monster...now I won't worry whether they will run for 4 days and ERR out in the last 10 yards. That would have been a disaster and ruined my day because of the wasted time and effort, even if i didn't do any heavy lifting. Peace, Jeanne |

Jeanne,
----------------------------------------As already announced earlier in this thread (and just in my previous post) the normal completion of one of these monster WUs is enough for disturbing Boinc's duration estimate algorithm considerably and for a few days. That's what you see for those not-beta WUs that you mention. But they will not need all that time to complete. I do see that they are allocating more disk space. What do you mean exactly? I have not heard or seen any change in this area. And if so I doubt that it would have anything to do with the CMD2 betas which had a very small footprint (memory and disk storage) in our machines. Cheers. Jean. |

Well, in accordance with the latest comment from knreed, I'm now going to abort my long WU...
----------------------------------------Basically though, if I was in this for badges alone, I'd keep it going (by the time I'd seen the above message, it had already done 60 hours and only reached 30% - thus, extrapolating it out, it'd result in over 8 days worth of crunching, probably more - as, the time was constantly getting longer and longer (see below) )Hrs Crunched % cplte Proj. Est Time 14:47:44 4.588% ~322.5 hrs 15:00:00 5.815% ~257.9 hrs 16:00:00 11.449% ~139.7 hrs 17:00:00 17.613% ~96.5 hrs 18:00:00 18.067% ~132.8 hrs 19:00:00 18.355% ~103.5 hrs 21:00:00 18.945% ~110.8 hrs 24:00:00 19.839% ~120.9 hrs 25:00:00 20.127% ~124.2 hrs 27:00:00 20.687% ~130.5 hrs 29:00:00 21.247% ~136.4 hrs 36:00:00 23.262% ~154.7 hrs 40:00:00 24.382% ~164.0 hrs 60:00:00 30.243% ~198.3 hrs Thing is though, as well as the eventual results (if they ever came) of this WU not being of any use, it's now beginning to clog up the other WU's I've got... ![]() |

Alright, I will abort the WU BETA_ CMD2_ 0001-PP1BA.clustersOccur-TPM1A.clustersOccur_ 31_ 6-- when I get home tonight. When I left this morning, it was at ~25% after 54 hours of crunching on a stock Q6600. Let me know if you need any more information before I send my work into the bit bucket. |

Mine got aborted because the deadline was exceeded (strange as I edited the xml file, perhaps I forgot something) but I did not receive any points for it, does this take a few days?
This was the WU: BETA_ CMD2_ 0001-PP1BA.clustersOccur-TPM1A.clustersOccur_ 40_ 6-- |

It is an unscheduled operation. I usually run it in the morning but sometimes in the afternoon (US time). I have just run it now and your credit has been granted.
