I did an experiment, I held back several days worth of completed data units. So I could see a 'sharp' rise in my points graph.
BUT WCG stole the 'extra points'! and my graph looks like all the previous days! ![]() So, I looked back over the last year that I have been running the client, and I have found that the number of points 'awarded' is NOT the same number of credits actually given to the client. I am at this time my client is TENS of thousands of points behind what the site/stats shows me I should have! (I looked at the earned POINTS and compared them with what was awarded) FOR INSTANCE on FEB 23 I turned in 3402 points (as stated on wcg) but only 500 points were actaully credited. WHY? I know the points are not worth anything but at least WCG/BOINC could do the math properly. I have contacted 'help' they seem IGNORANT to the error. SO I SUGGEST every user to check the points awarded against the points you are actually awarded and if wrong CONTACT HELP and tell them! UNTIL THEY MAKE THE NUMBER OF POINTS AWARDED TO BE THE SAME AS THE NUMBER CREDITED I AM QUITTING-switching to folding at home.. AFTER YEARS OF CRUNCHING for WCG! If WCG/BOINC can't or won't fix this error then they are intentionally stealing worthless points, why?, whats the reason? I wrongly assumed that the points I earned on a unit were the same as the number of points I actually received... I BET THE SAME LOSS IS HAPPEING TO EVERY USER! My question is when you hit 500 points in a day, how much over that will they credit? It looks like to me when you hit around 500 points WCG subtracts an ' unknown' amount... from the actual points... why? The only explantion I recieved from them was "Then the claimed points for valid results are examined for anomalous (excessively high or low compared to other machines computing the same or equivalent work unit) values and adjusted accordingly." I guess this is why they stole 2402 of my points because I don't normally get credited more than 500 a day. They wrongly adjusted my points by 2402 since I normally don't send in that much a day,,,,, wait,,, if I was awarded proper and accurate points I would have more than 500 points awarded every day. My points on the web site LIES BY showing I have earned more than 500 on a day but my graph shows I NEVER exceed 500 a day! The clients stats show me they never credited more than 500 points a day! Even though my stats say I average over 1051 a day. MY average of over 1051 a day multiplied by the 2 years I have been doing this, means my points should equal over 730000! but I only have 680174, and I have been running it longer than 2 years.... WCG/Boinc obvioulsy does not award-credit the same number of points 'awarded' as they claim they do.... THIS SHOULD BE ACCURATE SINCE THE POINTS ARE OF NO MONTETARY VALUE TO USERS... I assume the POINTS MUST be of value to WCG or they would have the point system accurate! WCG - BOINC PLEASE DO THE MATH CORRECTLY! I'll wait 3 days before deleting Boinc and going with folding..., to give WCG time to PROPERLY address and FIX or state their fixing the problem. |

Hi SolarPowered,
Look at My Grid - Results Status to see when credits are awarded. Remember that 1 BOINC credit equals 7 WCG points. Lawrence |

First..
How do I see your (lawrencehardin) stats since there is no link to search for a member on wcg's site.... (before submitting this I figured that out, see below) . I guess I should contact them again and ask them to put a link to search for a members stats... (for people who can't figure it out...) . Your statement is the first I heard of 7 for 1. WHERE (what url,web page,) DID YOU GET THAT INFO FROM? Since I couldn't find anything releated to that (point difference) on their site. (please post url...web page) . Also: I have not been told that by WCG ( their email response-s should have contained this if it's true) . If that is a true statement then they need to post it on this page. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=points... It is NOT mentioned or hinted to on that page. . Just checked the math,,,, It's NOT 7 to 1 on mine. 3402 poinits awarded on site 327.9 awarded on the client. 327.9x7=2295.3 does not equal 3402! . Thanks for trying but the MATH IS still wrong !. I don't mean to be rude, but cool your jets. Points schmoints, not really the reason for doing this work. Yeah, it is a nice measurement tool for comparison purposes, but there are a number of factors that go into how many WCG points or BOINC credits are awarded. I have one machine which overclaims consistently and is awarded fewer points than it claims. Why ? I don't know and pretty much don't care. I have investigated a number of possibilities, but nothing panned out and no it is not over clocked or using an optimised client. I do remember both Sekerob and Didactylos answered a number of questions some time ago about points and credits and such.
----------------------------------------I hope you stay crunching for WCG, but it is entirely your choice. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

How do I see your (lawrencehardin) stats since there is no link to search for a member on wcg's site.... (before submitting this I figured that out, see below) . I guess I should contact them again and ask them to put a link to search for a members stats... (for people who can't figure it out...) I agree it is not easy but you have finally found one way to do it. Personally I have bookmarked an empty Comparison page and I use it when I need. Your statement is the first I heard of 7 for 1. WHERE (what url,web page,) DID YOU GET THAT INFO FROM? Since I couldn't find anything releated to that (point difference) on their site. (please post url...web page) It is discussed regularly in this forum. You can also refer to this Start Here thread The points shown on the web site don't match the points in the agent. Also: I have not been told that by WCG ( their email response-s should have contained this if it's true) They probably have misunderstood your message. If it looked like your opening post they have excuses. Personal advice: when there is something you don't understand simply ask the question and refrain from shouting "Errors" or "Lies", because if there is no error and no lies people will concentrate on demonstrating it to you (if they are not too upset) instead of explaining why it was not clear for you. Just checked the math,,,, It's NOT 7 to 1 on mine. 3402 poinits awarded on site 327.9 awarded on the client. 327.9x7=2295.3 does not equal 3402! Because of the delay introduced by the validation process it is very difficult to reconcile/match both sides because there is no validation date in the Results Status page (we have asked if it could be added in a future website upgrade). Simply trust WCG. What would be their benefit in cheating your points and/or credits? Upsetting and losing members? Do you seriously think that? Thanks for trying but the MATH IS still wrong !The math is not wrong. Let's try something else. Take note of your current total of points, say "Tpoints". Open your "Stats by device" page. Make sure that both filters are showing "anytime (all devices)". Note the total of points accumulated by all "United Devices" devices, say "Upoints". Compute Bpoints = (Tpoints - Upoints) / 7. Bpoints should be very close to what you will find in your BoincStats page (for example). The (small?) difference is due to different daily updates schedules. Cheers. RE: Sgt Joe your quote "I don't know and pretty much don't care"
Your statement shows why the points are sooo off of what the stats show... It appears to me that the users DO NOT care. . The problem is that if they are going to give and show points it should be done ACCURATELY with NO excuses.... after all they are worthless... SO, Their posting of accurate or incorrect points as I state means nothing to them or am I wrong? . IF IT MEANS NOTHING TO THEM WHY CAN'T THEY GET IT ACCURATE? ACCURACY IS NOT AN UNREASONABLE REQUEST! What is unreasonable is accepting the errors without trying to get it fixed. . RE:JmBoullier "It is discussed regularly in this forum. You can also refer to this Start Here thread..." IF IT's a regular discussion like you state.... Then why has WCG or BOINC not posted it on their FAQ, OR even address the 7 to 1 point difference ANYWHERE ? MY guess is because they and most users don't care about accuracy. . JmBoullier, I did as you suggested BUT, guess what IT'S WAY OFF. . By what I have been told, by 2 users I should only show 97168 points But I show on the web site 680176 and on the client I show 53647 . 680176/7 =97168 Unless you are worse at math then I am, HOW DO YOU GET THOSE NUMBERS MATCH UP MATHMATICALLY? . I may not be the best at math but these numbers and the excuses for them being wrong are also wrong, unless you (or anyone) can explain the difference using correct and accurate math. Challenge, Show me 'simple' math that gets me 53647 out of 680176. . When you ASK WCG OR BOINC's site about the point difference they are clueless. NOTE TO: JmBoullier I did not claim lies etc on my email.... Here is a copy of my email. "Problem Type: Problem Description: on Feb 23 I sent in aprox 3000 validated points, but only about 500 have been credited WHY DID I NOT GET THE OTHER 2500? SO I LOOKED MORE CAREFULLY AT THE POINTS... SO, I added up my daily points and looking at the points graph, it looks like I continually get less points than actual points!!! From Jan 26 to Feb 28 I counted aprox 20000 points but only about 8000 points were credited Why? (look at points generated graph on the dates FEB-4,6,9,10,18,23) the points were above 2000 each but I only got credit for less than that, WHATS UP? I DON'T get any money or any thing for doing this PLEASE GET MY POINTS RIGHT" . NOTE their response did not mention 7to1 they just repeated (copied and pasted) what their points help page says. Info I already knew, which did not explain the difference in points, thats why I'm here. . COME ON USERS since points are worthless at least they can get the numbers accurate! . Apparently most of the users are like Sgt.Joe they just don't care... . Complacency or ignoring errors causes problems like a big budget deficit, etc. . FYI: In my opinion the U.S.A. got into it's problems because too many of its citizens are CARELESS, CLUELESS AND DECEIVED and are complacient with errors or mistakes the government makes! ........ like some of the Boinc/WCG users ..............HOW DEEP does that lack of care go???....(rhetorical question) My computer systems are 100% solar powered because I care! My solar system produces aprox 30Kwh per day, plenty to power all the running computers with power to spare .. It appears to me that WCG/Boinc uses its forum and users to try to explain its problems away. Probably so they don't have to deal with the problems. Boinc/WCG please fix the problems. Since you-boinc/wcg are getting paid to have us run the units the least Boinc and WCG could do is give the worthless points accurately, without excuses with correct math. . IF the points are actually 7to1 then the math should work out AND WITHOUT HESITATION THEY SHOULD POST THAT 7-1 INFO ON THE POINTS HELP PAGE! I doubt they will ever post that 7 to 1 point calculation on the points help page, after all if it's a true statement it should already be there. . More people need to care about accuracy in everything! . Thank you Sgt.Joe, JmBoullier and lawrencehardin for at leastTRYING to explain the mistakes and dealing with my 'hot headedness'. ![]() |

Solarpowered,
----------------------------------------Your registration says 5/22/07, thus not 1051 * 365 days * 2 years, so based on that you might try to redo your sums... I did some tests on your numbers and it all tallies. cheers

SolarPowered, you have 12 device installations registered with WCG. It is likely that you don't use most of these any more.
The points and credit tally for everyone. If you think there is something wrong with your own credit, then you should tell us exactly how many points were earned by each of your 12 devices shown in Device Manager (old ones are hidden by default). The old UD system is explained here: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/United_Devices_credit_system The actual scaling factor is not published officially, because most members trust World Community Grid to do all this reliably. Let me reiterate the point my colleagues made: points earned with your previous UD devices are not included in the total displayed by your BOINC client. This should be enough information for you to do a complete tally, but if not, just provide all the information from your device statistics page, and we will work it out for you. Find the information here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...dSince=0&lastResult=0 Thank you. PS: BOINC credits are stored with more precision than is displayed, so you may see a tiny rounding error. |

Solar Powered:
I did the math with mine: Total: 1202189 points (3 devices) Subtract: 163062 that was UD only Result: 1039127 divided by 7 equals 148446.71 BOINC credit Actual BOINC credit stated on my client: 148446.74 Well within the ballpark. |
