Rickjb: When I went to the profiles I am using via the device manager, I have the following set for both systems:
Connect to network about every 0.3 days Cache 10.0 extra days of work Am I misinterpreting something about how these values should be set? Are there any other consideration for increasing tha amount of work that gets downloaded? Thanks, Dave |

10 days is a little much...mainly because you're system might not have enough time to finish all those WUs before the due date. For awhile I set mine at 5 days just to make sure I had enough RICE WUs while the queue kept emptying out every now and then. Now that I'm on DDDT and CEP I just have mine at 0.5 days cache.
----------------------------------------I would suggest setting your cache to 3 days. That way, if your computer can't connect to the internet...it will have roughly 3 days to successfully connect before running out of work. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 27, 2009 5:55:31 PM] |

Considering that the deadline of several WCG projects is 9 days, the 10 days buffer setting is not advisable unless running RICE only which has a 12 day return requirement.
----------------------------------------BOINC will always work to get tasks completed 24 hours before deadline. So having 10 days will make the client surely run in Panic mode, High Priority. Overdue work is currently not automatically canceled, thus you could end up completing work that does not give credit if deemed "Too Late". Overall, considering the very high uptime, such buffering is not needed to always have WCG work on hand. Travelling laptops, e.g. only able to upload once per week even would not be able to complete all the buffered work, thus 3-4 days is probably the most practical amount one should cache.

Considering everything everyone has said, it all makes no difference since my average turnaround time is from 4 to 8 hours. CEP WUs took the most amount of time as I would some would actually start out with a completion time of over 30 hours, but once I start running, that time moves down to under 15 hours fairly quickly. Right now I have the following qued:X...804171741_1 04:07:19 88.609% 00:40:26 X...801311359_1 03:07:08 66.642% 02:04:01 X...801311415_0 0.000% 07:53:41 X...802141545_1 0.000% 07:53:41 and that is all. Those WUs for 7:53 will probably complete in a little over 4 hours. I have 2 processors (duo) on this system and 4 (quad) on my home system, and most of my WU's are waiting for completion by someone else so they can be validated. |

Do we have a guesstimated time frame on when CEP will start sending out new WUs? I know the team is working on it now...I was just curious.

Don't know who the "we" are. I'm not privy to any such information; wil see it when it comes and I predict it not to be before March 20, at least based on what I do know (upon which Murphy slaps me in the face)

Well, considering that this project temporarily ran out of WU's on the 23rd of Feb, it's certainly taking some time to 'drain away the stragglers...'
----------------------------------------As yesterday (3rd of March), we still had these statistics come through... Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) 0:058:22:17:24 Points Generated 125,800 Results Returned 109 ![]() |

Don't think that comment was needed. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 4, 2009 7:00:38 PM] |

I get judged as being harsh sometimes and have even been accused a know-it-all, but some of you are making it just too easy.
Don't you think that the Scientists and Technicians are working as hard as they can to get the problems fixed? Don't you think that they want their project(s) running fast, soon and reliably? Don't you think they wanted CEP back up in a week rather than a month or more? Don't you think that every cruncher is anxious to get CEP back up? There are a lot of people who have vastly more invested in CEP that any of the crunchers. If you feel the need to complain about a project or criticize what other people are doing to fix a project, how about telling us what you are actually doing to fix the problems. There have been many crunchers that did a lot to help fix the CEP problem(s) by reporting their results and observations. Now we just have to wait, and hopefully we all wait quietly, holding back any critical thoughts. ps: Passed 10 years run time yesterday ![]() |

The comment is a reference to Murphy's Law. <General comment> I think tempers are getting a little too frayed over issues that have already been addressed and questioned already answered. The work will return as soon as it's ready, the techs and scientists are working their little behinds off to get it done and as soon as anybody knows anything it will be posted here in short order. Getting cranky and impatient won't help anything. </General Comment> ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |
