Currentlly project stats?

Hi,
I´m new to this project and I wanted to ask if there´s a date when there will be new things to calculate?

Is there also an official research page with some statistics and results about the project?

Re: Currentlly project stats?

Hi, Dennis86.

We never have exact dates for when projects start or stop. The best we can say is "soon".

It's a bit early for results yet. Most of our projects don't start to publish their results until after their time on the grid (except for a few long-running projects such as FighAIDS@Home). Updates for The Clean Energy Project will be posted in these forums, and also here: http://cleanenergy.harvard.edu/index.php?ira=...=sidebar&sidebar=news

Re: Currentlly project stats?

I'm also brand-new - at this writing just coming up on 24 hours, and nothing shows as far as work done or anything for any of the six or so projects I signed up for - I just clicked all of them - AIDS, dengue, green energy, etc. What is happening is a lot of work on the Milky Way@ home project, but that's not one of the six that I find on this site, yet they all use, I suppose, the BOINC manager. Yes? No? So how is Milky Way related to the other six? And why is Milky Way the only one that shows up on the BOINC manager status report? Is that report where I should also see the status of the other six projects?

IOW, I'm totally confused, and haven't found one place that explains how this all works in language that I can understand (I'm a poet...sigh...). I'm not even sure now how I got Milky Way, but it did appear after downloading BOINC. I did find out that letting my computer sleep stops the work (duh), and so I expect that closing my browser also stops work. Yes? No? But you can see how clueless I am about all this. Despite that, I'm letting my computer do this work about 16 hours a day with 100GB of my hard drive, and put it to sleep at night just to keep the electric bill down and give the HD a rest. Thanks.

It sounds as though the BOINC client on your system is not attached to World Community Grid. MilkyWay@Home is not one of the WCG projects; it's a completely separate project run by a different organization.

I suggest you start with the FAQ located here . That should answer most or all of your questions. If you have additional questions, you should ask in the BOINC agent support forum .

Re: Currentlly project stats?

Hi William.

Milkyway@Home is not a World Community Grid project. You must have added it by accident. Follow these steps to sort things out:

1. Open BOINC Manager.
2. If you are using the simple view, click on "Advanced" http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Image:BOINC_Manager_views.svg
3. Go to the Projects tab.
4. Select MilkyWay@Home, then click the Detach button.
5. Repeat for any other projects that aren't World Community Grid.
6. Hopefully you are just left with World Community Grid. If not, click on Tools -> Attach to project....
When it asks for the project URL, put www.worldcommunitygrid.org
Complete the wizard, and you should be done.

Please ask if you have any further questions.

Re: Currentlly project stats?

Hi William, and welcome to WCG. I hope you sort things out soon and help us with WCG's humanitarian research.
Something that can be confusing to newcomers is that as far as BOINC is aware, WorldCommunityGrid is just one project. The various projects within WCG, like Clean Energy, Fight AIDS, Dengue etc are "sub-projects", and you can only select or de-select them on the WCG website, in your "My Grid" setup.
As you found, in the BOINC Manager you can select projects other than WCG, like MilkyWay, and I think you can specify the % of time to be spent on each. I don't know about that, since I only ever attached to WCG, so it gets 100%.
You will be able set some parameters that control how and when your computer crunches for WCG by going to "Device Manager" in your "My Grid".
The Start Here: Community-maintained FAQs section of this forum contains a wealth of info. A very useful thread there is The Start Here Forum Frequently Asked Questions Index.
