Re: .

Evening all

No fresh snow here but compacted stuff on the pavements still poses a problem. Still, after a final bit of shopping tomorrow, I can batten down the hatches and sample some of the fizz I got as presents.

Re: .

Morning every one

I dont know if you saw the BBC news last evening
re the dire straits that the elderly are in if the heating fails
British gas comes to the rescue of some lady whose boiler had failed
it showed the Brit Gas guy pouring hot water on a platic pipe trhats exactly what ails my boiler
The item didn't point out that its a poor installation that pipe contained condensate it wasn't water supply to the house poor old dear was without heat for a couple of days
All it required was information to be given to the customer when reporting the fault check the pipe and if possible get a neighbour to boil a kettle and free up the pipe ......
any way my rouge pipe is free at the moment smile

Re: .

Good morning all ...........

Watched the program Den, what happend to good old lagging on the pipes? there is obviously a design fault with this type of boiler, no thought had been given to the fact we get freezing weather here.
However, I recall winters when the lead pipes were frozen solid and we would have to use a lighted candle to defrost them to get the water running, we would then fill up the bath with water knowing that the next day the pipes would be solid again.
Central heating them days was the fire in the living room around which we would huddle to keep warm, I have happy memories of bath days in front of the fire, toasted bread and dripping, hot cocoa and stories whilst we watched the flames dance and make patterns in the embers of the fire.

Have a warm wonderful Christmas all ..........

Stay safe

Re: .

Evening all

Have now finished all the odds and ends of shopping and have wrapped my beloved's presents - we have a tradition that we must have eight parcels each even if most of them are nonsense things just so that we have a long time opening them after we've breakfasted and dressed and lit the tree which goes up tomorrow.

The prospect of a White Christmas now looks more like a dirty grey but it's still colder than I like so I may leave the heating on tomorrow night so that Christmas morning is decently warm.

Re: .

Evening U lot another bright sunny day below freezing all day tho

++++++++++++++++++
@ Tony
the weird thing is at the point you require central heating the boiler gives up the ghost 'cause its too cold ????
This link is instructive http://www.condensingboiler.org.uk/
as well as freezing the condensate is acidic sad
The method of getting rid of this product of combustion is a steady drip that gradually freezes blocking the pipe.
One solution is to collect and send larger quantity to drain
best of all is to not allow it outside the building plumb it internally to domestic drainage .. Bodge repair is to lag the pipe sort of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted devilish
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have dug out the steam cleaner this has a wand that I can cook the pipe with from ground level a lot safer than climbing a ladder with a kettle of boiling water biggrin
Knowing that I am not alone in this problem is not much of a consolation.
I wonder if the chairman of British Gas is going to pick up his Christmas Bonus ?
