Got to tackle the snow and ice this morning to go and look after little Alfie, and supposedlly give him a walk! I can't imagine he is going to enjoy that anymore than me!
I have got a half-hour drive to get there so hoping that the road won't be too bad! ![]() |

Even the ambulance could not get up our drive this morning and Evelyn missed her hospital appointment. Ruth did not get to work - but her college was closed anyhow. Emily got as far as the bus stop and a passing teacher from her school told her to go back home.

Evening all
Still nothing here but flurries or possibly more are promised (or should I say threatened) during the next 24 hours. Now there are threats of possible gas shortages as we try not to import too much. That really would be a problem. With the current zero temperatures, the boiler doesn't go off all day. |

These weather 'people' are getting really good! Just watched the news and they were forecasting snow for our region this evening and during the night.
Just came in here to see if I had any emails and had a look out of the window. It is a snowy wonderland out there - about 2inches on the ground and the same on my car! That's the thing about snow, it is silent isn't it? So I didn't hear it! It is still snowing too!Now let me think, have I got enough food in the larder? That is an old fashioned word, isn't it? I don't really have a larder! I've got a fridge and freezer though ![]() |

Now let me think, have I got enough food in the larder? That is an old fashioned word, isn't it? I don't really have a larder! I've got a fridge and freezer though ![]() Must be the part of the country you call from, we as kids knew it as the Pantry!! Often would find Rabbits or Chickens hanging just inside the door and on the shelves would be an assorted array of home made jams and pickles Had a big gas fired boiler tub them days in which the laundry was done, this was also used on occasion's for cooking suet and date/sultana puddings; On cold evenings we would all sit around a coal fire toasting fork (made at school) in hand, toasting slices of hand cut bread liberally spread with pork or beef dripping and sprinkled with salt, whilst watching the flames dance and imagining all sorts of images in the glowing embers of the fire; No central heating then!, we would often have to unfreeze the lead pipes with a candle to get the water running only to find next morning they were frozen again!. They where tough times but happy times and Christmas was a time of wonderment and joy; Sally Army band would come around Christmas Eve playing and singing yuletide carols and above it all you could hear church bells ringing to call the faithful to Midnight Mass,; Big bruv, Ted, would be telling stories of Santa Clause as we lay top to tail in a big double bed snuggly covered by a bright heavy coloured blanket made up of pieces of all manners of material that Mum had hand stitched together; No this wasn't in Victorian days, this was the late 40's early 50's when rationing was still with us!. Time was so much slower then and the seasons were easily defined. Stay warm, stay safe Old Soppy Sage ![]() |

slight dusting of the white stuff here yay ![]() We had a slight dusting too, but fortunately it all melted. It only takes 3 flakes on the road this far south then all the roads are completely grid-locked and a 15 minute drive turns into a 3 hour ordeal. Journey to work tomorrow isn't worth thinking about. Hope the rest of you all enjoy the snow, or if not, then are at least well prepared! ![]() |

Well I have just had a look outside on my way to bed, and the 2 inches of snow is now 4 inches and it is still falling! I know how much has fallen because the snow is still intact on my little fence and none has fallen off at all. It is 4 inches deep and looks very pretty. What I could also see is animal footprints - probably the foxes we have around here and maybe a moggie or two, although they are usually too canny to be out on a night like this! It is so quiet and peaceful out there too. I am planning a day indoors tomorrow and get a few of those jobs done that I keep putting off!
