Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMM
----------------------------------------Is it just me or do we have the Flu shot to thank for our ongoing Flu delema. Think about it...before the flu shot, you got the flu, felt like crap for a few days, got over it and went back to work. Then came the flu shot, then a few years later there's a new strain of flu. So next year there's a new flu shot. Then a few years later there's another new strain. And so on and on and on....... Ever wonder if the pharmaceutical companies that make the shot are actually the ones creating these new strains and passing them along in the current shot It sure does boost thier sales.I might catch it and drop dead tomorrow but I for one have never taken the flu shot and haven't had the flu in 20 years or so. And why is it when a pharmaceutical company has a drug that WORKS, they stop production? I called Wyeth Labs and talked to one of the techs there about Phenergan VC w/ Codeine. A drug they ceased production on about 10 years ago. IE when my allergies are going strong (every year) this stuff breaks up chest congestion and knocks out a cough in no time. Anything else available this good??? NO, not even now. They told me that the generic is the same. NOT, ever heard of patents and copyrights, it can't be the same. I tried the generic, it might as well have been water. And if it's not the pharmaceutical companies being butts, it's the doctors. They're so money hungry they won't prescribe a good drug that will cure you. Instead they prescribe something that will keep you going enough to have to come back at least once if not twice. IE when my kids were growing up the doc would try to prescribe Keflex (or something like that) and they'ld have to go back. My wife fell for this ploy once or twice. After that she'ld tell them to give them Augmentin. The doc would always say "thats's expensive" So what, it works and we don't have to come back because it WORKS. And that bring up another thing, ever notice how the price of drugs has skyrocketed since the introduction of the drug card? It's like the pharmaceutical companies and the drug stores figure since the insurance company is picking up the tab then they'll just charge as much as possible. More proof of this has recently come about because if you tell the pharmacy you don't have a drug card or insurance they charge you a lower price. It's like....That'll be $98....oh, you don't have a insurance...just a minute, I'll see what I can do.....that'll be $52 I'll bet at $52, they're still making 100% profit. Oh well, I'll get off my soap box now. Y'all have a great day ![]()

I know a little bit about generic prescription
----------------------------------------the Correct medication as written up by your Gp is what deals with your malady ... if you take this prescribed drug and it works stick with it . Don't accept any substitute Okay the component part that is dealing with your ailment is correct. In its mix on the tablet Its the binding agents that differ these affect the absorbsion rates very often important to those people who take the drug controlled daily medication if the binding agent is changed by only a slight amount this can have a massive affect on the active component and how it works with you . This applies to all medications BUT as from "Jan 2010" you local Pharmacist is allowed to dispense an generic substitute Ensure that your Gp prescribes the exact item on your prescription THIS MEANS YOU dont accept any thing other than the correct item Talk to your Doc and I'm sure if you show him you know what your on about he will insist I have also talked to my local Pharmacist and she is with me on how to deal with this problem Edwardians are often chewin on medicaments make sure U chaw down on the right stuff Half an pound of tuppeny rice Half a pound of treacle That's the way the money goes Pop goes the Weasel ... ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by densnaps at Oct 11, 2009 2:08:40 PM] |

viewed from an owld fellers perspective In UK
----------------------------------------we go to the docs when we feel poorly (maybe takes a couple of days to get appointment) get to see the great man Or woman who tells us we are sick and should take this or that medicament it doesn't cost us a dime for this advice the prescription when presented at the pharmacy costs circa £7.00 per item unless you have managed to struggle over the 60years bridge for Wimmin or 65 for us blokes then it costs nowt .. To say that its free at our age forgets the fact that in our working life we did pay National Insurance contributions each week deducted from our wage at source and donated to the state. this means that I don't have to worry about getting sick or how I will pay for the next terribly expensive drug I can question the drug that I am prescribed and fight to get the killer item that suits my ailment Not saying that our National health service is perfect but its worked to some degree since 1947 ish We understand the worry in the states about how a system would work states side .... ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by densnaps at Oct 11, 2009 2:58:28 PM] |

Evening all
And following the previous posts a NICE Sunday is appropriate as it's the UK body that approves medications. |
