Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Yeah, went in yesterday but couldn't stay. Felt like I was being stabbed in 4 places at once and my office was 53 degrees. Turns out I have bronchitis. Brenda has it too. We both agree we'd have to feel better to die.

So far the only travelling I've done outside the US is to Canada in 1976. Brenda is hoping I'll go with her, her mom, daughter, son-in-law and grandkids to Japan. I'd like to go but really have a fear of travelling to other countries. With my allergies I can see developing a problem abroad and then I'd really be in trouble.

Both Angler's and the tax office close for most holidays including a week or so at Christmas.

My counterpart is covering today so I'm just gonna hang out here and drink a lot of water.

Catch y'all later. cool

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Poor you sad
Did the two of you see a doctor for your bronchitis?
53 degrees, you say. Must be F? That’s 11.5 C. That’s fairly cold for indoors, so you ran a fever? How did you catch it at the same time the two of you? Have you been running in and out without warm clothes during your move to your new places?

Excuse me for behaving like an interrogator, but which kinds of allergies do you have at present? Food allergies? Something you receive treatment for? Do you fear that some new allergies could present themselves if you go to Japan? Different environment, different food?
They have doctors in Japan, too, should you come down with a new species.

Your ’counterpart’…? Next in line of command?
How are you now?

Pardon me ….. it looks awful with all those question marks.

@ Guitar Man: Yes, isn't it amazing what these things can do? I also use mine for navigating. I have an app that I love to pieces. It can so many things. It's for Android and is called 'HERE We Go'. The link will probably take you to a Danish version of the website,
unless it reads all the information about you when you look it up laughing
On the newest update it has made the background of the speed you drive red when you exceed the limit. So simple and easy to read. You can download maps for off-line use so you don't spend your data allowance.
I think you need a power bank for uninterrupted crunching, John wink
I looked for tablets. They are not all that expensive. DKK 1,200 ~ £143 ~ US$ 195 for a Lenovo.

@acpartsman: How was your opening day? Do you have some kind of reception on such an occasion? And at your wife's office?
he-he money saved is money earned, eh? I know that routine. Don't tell your wife, but I did our books ourselves when I was my exhusband's wife and saved us a good deal on accounting.

Yes, I could rejoin The Edwardians were it not for the fact that I'm moving around all the time. But I haven't been there since January 27, 2013, so it must be overdue. Why not put you on a list for a Base Camp trek some time in 2018 and try to make some publicity for the Edwardians. Yes, I agree: You need new blood. And you deserve it, too.

How come you joined and English team, acpartsman, since 'You Have Never Been to Spain? - nor to England'

This is the app I use for directions

I normally have 2 PC's that crunch 24/7, but one has had a hard drive go down, and is away for repair, and a cell phone that crunches most of the time, unless I go out, and then I turn the crunching off as i uses up the battery a lot.
When I retired, I visited the U.S. and visited people that I'd met on here or U.D. ....(remember them?) I visited Lighthouse, Diana G, oliviathefirst, and Johnsomhome. I don't think that I could do that now.

I have 2 mobility scooters. One packs up into a suitcase sized box, and can be taken on an aeroplane,
and the other one you can take apart and put it in the car. although ai usually try to use public transport.

My phone being used as a dash cam, from the bus to my house

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

So you prefer Google Maps. I use that on the computer.
Mine allows you to make 'collections'. I have one for 'Parking' when I go to Copenhagen, I have one for 'Walks' to select from, and I have 'Budapest' with five different themes and so on.

There has been a wonderful development in all kinds of contraptions that help the handicapped in so many ways which is a good thing so you don't lose everything because, say, your legs don't work the way the should any more. It's difficult but better than having no technical assitance. I see you have a 'seating' on the bus for handicapped people. Does the bus 'kneel down' so you have easy access?

Sure, I remember your - didn't you call it? - Sofatour? - and in fact I think of it quite often.
I was on your Facebook group where you posted the most amzing pictures from the most different locations with wild, wild adventures. A flight in Texas, in the countryside with Diana G, playing the guitar in a club in Chicago. Do you still have that Facebook group? Do you have any connection with oliviathefirst? I have seen Lighthouse posting (with the Christians) once while I have been back.
It was so good you got to do this while you were fit for it, and I can tell you cherish the memories.

@ acpartsman: I know you're satisfied with life without going to Japan.
On the other hand: It's important to collect memories while you can smile

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Of course getting sick like I am now really drives home my bad feeling about traveling, even within the US. Went to the beach once right after being sick, only 250 miles but the change in climate was unbearable. Everything came back worse. Packed up and came home. The closer we got to home the better I felt. By the time we got home all symptoms were nearly gone.

@Guitar Man:
Thank you for posting the clarifying dashcam-experience, the insight that it creates for others, while bringing you from the bus to your house. It is interesting to see how you're travelling on your mobility-scooter and see things in your perspective: the roadside (damaged surfaces), the car-traffic, pedestrian-crossings for the blind, the shocks, traffic-lights, sharp turns, dangerous places to cross (hope you don't get overlooked when something goes awry), etc. rose

These mobile phones are not handy for just the disabled. I get very cross when people moan about the Refugees, saying that they have mobile phones, as if they shouldn't have. If you have to travel from Syria to Europe, and you have to do it the hard way, a mobile phone is a 'must have'

The Sofa tour group is still there......
I think that oliviathefirst may be still around, although she lost her husband a few years ago, and she couldn't manage on her own, so I think he went into a home....I think it was dementia that got her in the end. She was a very bright lady.
Diana G is now happily married.

Thank you for your comments. I have to keep my wits about me. In general England is very good at providing drop kerbs at crossings, but I live in a small village, and the upkeep of the sidewalks is .very bad as it's the local council that's in charge of the upkeep. When I'm in town it's not too bad. Because I'm sitting at a lower level, People who are walking can't see me very well, especially if they've got their eyes glued to their mobile phone :). I try not to run into people. Thy usually end up walking into me.....

Enjoyed the vid. I'm always searching webcams in Britain. Usually train cams because they're easier to find and view. Really enjoy viewing places I can't be.

Well, I see you found a way to go places. Webcams! No bugs travel. And with a health as delicate as yours, I can understand why you prefer to do your travel from the safety of your own office chair.
How is you bronchitis today?

@ Guitar Man: I can look up your the u.s. sofa tour, but not much of it remains. No pictures.
I’m happy for Diana G. Yes, oliviathefirst was such a bright and funny lady, never afraid to try out new things all of her life. I wish she were among us trying a ’speak-to-text’ program on her computer. Nothing scared her. I also recall how she got her name: calling the phone company and had to supply a name.

They would not accept olivia; so she became oliviathefirst.
