Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

They always try to compare us with cities 4 times our size with 1/2 our competition and 10 times our median income.
he-he, that kind of sums it up in one good reason to put one’s feet under one’s own table in earnest.

I used to visit stores like yours, ship chandlers and commercial fishermen’s supplies, even pro shops at golf courses with a line of raingear I imported from Denmark. I didn’t make much money once the gas was paid for, but it was fun and I got to meet many nice people and see a lot of places. My self proclaimed territory was from the NY/CT stateline to Maine. I was in RI. Went to some boat shows, too, in Boston, Newport, RI, and inland in Worcester, MA.

How did you get the Australian and Czech customers?

Oh, yes, there is always the running bookkeeping and accounting to take care of year round for businesses and probably private people with complicated financials as well to keep your wife and her partner? busy.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I seem to remember that Team Edwardians once held at meet in England where you took part from the US. I think I saw some pictures 5-6 years ago.

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

CR and Aussie customers found us online as does many of our US customers. I used to be amazed that people would drive across the US to buy a used boat, now, nothing surprises me. It's really about customer service and selection, we tend to have a much larger selection than most dealers and based on the comments of customers, our customer service is far superior to many dealers. It always amazes me to hear about dealers that turn away service work because the person didn't buy their boat from them. Business is business and money is money. No wonder we have such a great rep.

As Three Dog Night sang, I've never been to England, so it wasn't me at the meet. biggrin

Well, not going to work today but I do have to change the oil in the wifes car and the struts on mine so....off I go.

Hope everyone has a great day and new year. cool

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Viva la Internet that gives you business from the opposite side of our Globe plus from Europe and much of the USA. That must be an interesting aspect of having your business.

I never liked being turned away by someone from whom I didn’t by a product if it needed service. Well, the result was that you never returned to that place. It must be some little Monopoly man who rules these people. Much like each smith making his own unique bolt and nut thread. Your attitude is far more conductive for everybody and for business.

’As Three Dog Night sang’ – I never heard that expression. Could you expand, please?
The oil change and putting in new struts must be a labor of love for you, right?

I find it so funny you and I talking here. I’m not even a member of the Edwardians – at least not for the time being - and none of the real members come out and play.
But it's educating and hyggeligt (has that Danish word hit the US shores yet?)

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

I use my phone as well when I'm out, but only for short messages
such as 4 letter words and SMS
- texting you call it, I think?
Never the 'middle way' between the laptop and the phone.
Perhaps a possibility.
Do they crunch as well?
When iPads are non-Apple versions, they are tablets, right?

I use my phone all the time when I am out. I clamp it to the tiller of my mobility scooter. it can act as a dashcam, or a satnav. It's a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, and I also crunch on it, as WCG do a device that will run on an Android phone, but it does use up the battery very quickly. Ipads are tablets.....I was given mine as a present, otherwise I would have chosen a different make....

The song by Three Dog Night is Never Been To Spain, one line of lyrics is "well I've never been to England"
I used to be a mechanic and still have my shop (although it's mostly used for storage these days) so I don't pay anyone to do things I can do myself.

You should join us, we need an infusion of new members, I bet more members will chime in when there's more conversation going on. The first time I was with the Edwardians the board stayed alive with posts. But many members passed away or moved to another team ( so did I, but I returned) so now there's just a hand full of us.

Well, we reopen today so it's off to work I go.

Y'all have a great day. cool

@ Guitar Man: Yes, isn't it amazing what these things can do? I also use mine for navigating. I have an app that I love to pieces. It can so many things. It's for Android and is called 'HERE We Go'. The link will probably take you to a Danish version of the website,
unless it reads all the information about you when you look it up laughing
On the newest update it has made the background of the speed you drive red when you exceed the limit. So simple and easy to read. You can download maps for off-line use so you don't spend your data allowance.
I think you need a power bank for uninterrupted crunching, John wink
I looked for tablets. They are not all that expensive. DKK 1,200 ~ £143 ~ US$ 195 for a Lenovo.

@acpartsman: How was your opening day? Do you have some kind of reception on such an occasion? And at your wife's office?
he-he money saved is money earned, eh? I know that routine. Don't tell your wife, but I did our books ourselves when I was my exhusband's wife and saved us a good deal on accounting.

Yes, I could rejoin The Edwardians were it not for the fact that I'm moving around all the time. But I haven't been there since January 27, 2013, so it must be overdue. Why not put you on a list for a Base Camp trek some time in 2018 and try to make some publicity for the Edwardians. Yes, I agree: You need new blood. And you deserve it, too.

How come you joined and English team, acpartsman, since 'You Have Never Been to Spain? - nor to England'

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Actually opening day wasn't the mad house it usually is. We have an annual open house at each dealership every year, ours is Jan 26/27 this year. After that it will be wide open till at least August.
Tax office opens full time on the 8th although she is available anytime and keeps the cell phones on 24/7, and has each office open 2 days a week year round. It's good you were able to save money by doing the books yourself. Brenda has several customers she has acquired because business got too big for their wife to handle the books, a good problem to have.

Y'all have a great day. cool

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Do you keep your business shot from about September each year, acpartsman?

I repeat a question I asked yesterday:
How come you joined an English team?

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Generally speaking most businesses slow down come September due to schools going back although last year we didn't slow down much and November for some reason was more like March in terms of being busy. Don't know why because it wasn't really warm.

Sorry, missed that memo. I was with Grid until they pulled the plug, then I crunched on Seti for a bit until a fellow cruncher from Grid invited me to The Edwardians. Stayed with The Edwardians until said friend started his own team. I switched over to his team until uncontrollable circumstances forced him to stop participating. At that time most members started moving to other teams so I came home to The Edwardians.

Well, gotta drag my butt to work. Think I'm coming down with pneumonia, felling really rough this morning but no one knows how to do my job and I'm a dedicated workaholic, so......

That means you have a general rule as for when to stay open with a good deal of flexibility?

No problem with the ’memo’.
I see you have been around. That means you master switching teams without problems.
And that your loyalties have some elastic to them.
Perhaps I might be allowed to invite you for a Base Camp trek now and then if something comes up that would catch your interest. You could always reject. Our plan is to visit Team Hungary starting about January 15. How do you feel about Hungary?
We hope to arrange a grand galla trek to ’SNURK and friends’ (SNURK is the creator of our SNURK signs as you see in my signature) in September. Hopefully we will make several treks in between.

I certainly hope that you shall not catch pneumonia. Have you had that before? You seem to be so unsurprised by the symptoms.

Workaholics are only allowed to call in sick on Sundays and holidays
and I doubt that even that would be an acceptable concept in your line of business
