Wet & Wild...
But not as wet as the Football lastnight apparently the venue had a Roof but it wasn't deployed ? It was thought that the teams wearing Wellies and carrying Brolly's would have detracted from the game .
I heard tell that the man that operates the roof mechanism was in fact here in England working as a plumber in Croydon wink

Re: Keep the home fires burning

Moaning all......

I've never really liked the 'Beautiful Game' since as a boy having to don those thick heavy leather boots to kick a leather ball that when wet was like kicking a house brick with no shoes on, I still support a scar across my forehead created by the lace of that same ball! crying I always seemed to end up as goal keeper and would stand perished in snow, frost, rain and whatever else the elements threw at me sad After watching last nights under 21 game I dislike it even more, the 'Beautiful Game' is nothing short of an 'Ugly Sport'; Sadly I see that other 'British'Invention,'Rugby', going the same way, and even the Gentle sport of Cricket as been tarnished of late sad I may not have liked kicking that ball all those years ago, but, sport was far more civil them days, Oh, and yes I know the rot started in the 60's on the terraces, but I refer to a more gentle time in the fifties!

Have a good day.......... wink

Anyone with access to the Guardian can get a splendid view of Guitar Man's neck of the woods with its centre double spread photo.

Re: Keep the home fires burning

My circa 1950's boots when, men were men & boots were BOOTS....

Glad to hear I'm not the only Bloke that isn't enthralled with our over hyped so called National "Sport"
It seems to be a given that fellers "WILL" like nay, be obsessed with it.
My school football due to the season that football is played
winter ==COLD. A frozen small boy after the game found it difficult to do up buttons with frozen fingers We didn't have the luxury of showers & went home muddy with the muddy boots, when You got home they were cleaned off dried then slathered with dubbin.
One christmas I got a proper leather football With a rubber bladder that had to be inserted inflated then laced in the inflation tube had to be tied no patent sealing gizmo. it also had to be Dubbin coated I can still recall the smell of that Leather ball and the dubbin .
preventing it getting waterlogged becoming even heavier that leather lace was a killer the modern ball is like chalk & cheese
Those Boots ^^^^ are mine from school found in mums shed when she passed away 4th Nov 1988.
built strong legs & check out those studs
