morning all.
----------------------------------------**************** Sent off for renewal of my E111 =EICH = reciprocal health care in the EU. I went into the site a week ago it required my NI number, I had to go find in its safe place that I had stashed it. "Hidden forgotten" I noted that it was asking for a £18.00 fee. Grrr every bloomin thing is going up .... Anyway up, Yesterday I returned with the required document started to fill the form in when i realized I was going through an agency . I rapidly came out of that and found the correct Government NHS site No cost at all free for the asking . I blame Google & the NHS I suspect many folks are sucked into this also of course its sensible to check the web address. ************************** Last week I found a letter from the post man he had tried to deliver a small pkt that required a signature It could be collected from the main office in town re directed to a local Sub post office . or redelivered. The GPO main sorting office is on double yellow lines no parking street . the letter forbids public vehicles in the PO yard ( I think that should read Private Vehicles but no matter) although there is plenty of room and parking bays marked visitors option to go to nearest corporation car park £1.00 short stay .NahCollecting from local sub PO involves a fee So I opted for redeliver I quizzed the postie as to why he didn't leave it next door. I understood that Royal mail had adopted this as a preferred delivery method customer satisfaction ensured > postie shrugs ??? At this point I should explain we have had the same postie for the last 25 years until about a year ago .( he was the son of a former work mate of mine & as the years went by he came to look more like his Dad) The head Red Rubber band controllers changed the distribution of who did what , this suited our chap as he ended his duties in town near his home .He now pushes an electric wheelbarrow round town. Our Walk is done by a selection of "younger" Post people, we get letters for different addresses our mail goes to different roads .I also understand that The red Push bikes are to be phased out not sure why . Dozens of little Red vans zip about town collecting from mail boxes & sub post offices. The sacks of mail return to the main Office where it is then transported 25 miles to Preston for sorting The local Mail then returns to Lancaster. The mind boggles ........ ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by densnaps at Oct 15, 2012 8:58:10 AM] |

No wonder nobody hears from you.
I still have a little box of the first decimal coins but it'll probably be another half century before they're worth anything more than their face value. I must say also that I find the post system and the delivering posties very efficient. Mind you, nobody really writes to me so it's only bills or begging letters. |

I agree with you Ivan about the postal service. Mostly a letter posted in your home town will be delivered at the other end of the country the next working day. There are weird exceptions local letters that get lost in the posties sack for a week when a letter to Australia takes four days.
----------------------------------------My grandmother was one of five sisters all in service in the late 1800's I have postcards sent from the sisters to my grandmother I was in contact with a cousin who had postcards sent to his grandmother from mine we were able to put the corresponding cards in order admitted they were all in the home counties but the cards all seemed to be posted and received within 24 hours they were quite prolific stamps while only having what seems a low value @ 1d would have been a fairly substantial slice of their wage . Your cache of mint decimal coins could be more valuable than you think depending on what they are made of I believe the precious metal content has been gradually reduced .I have a couple of tins containing lots of 1d coins as the price of copper is quite high I could "cash in" I also have a book of stamps unused 1p & 1/2p with George 6th head on |

Greetings all.
A bright and reasonably warm day so I've started the annual clear up of horse chestnut leaves from the tree next door. |

----------------------------------------Michael Fish has a lot to answer for if only he had read his seaweed correctly ................. say no more.............................. I understand the sales of wood burning stoves rocketed with so much fallen timber land owners being pleased to get rid of it all. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by densnaps at Oct 17, 2012 7:02:36 AM] |
