It seems there are much different series. The first WU I got is in the E000007 batch and it behaves as you have said: relatively short (about the same as a HCC), progressing regularly, small RAM and very few page faults. All others are in the E000370 batch, and it seems to be a completely different story. Very, very slow progression, time to completion slowly but regularly increasing, and a very high rate of page faults (maybe that explains the poor progression?), although RAM is about as low as the E000007 one (40 MB). About page faults: E000007 at 87 %: 543,000 E000370 at 10,3 %: 8,850,000 E000370 at 13 %: 11,120,000 Cheers. Jean. Kernel time on the 370's quite a bit up from the first 007's. 35 seconds after 2:15 hours. PF's high, Delta in the 1000-2000. Don't notice any particular performance issues though. BUT, one of the 370's, turned monster, is after 2:15 only at 9.5% progress but keeps creeping steadily up, with the projected completion time climbing constantly. Highly variable as another is 2:10 minutes, but at 36%.

Picked up three of these earlier this morning and just saw them. One interesting thing I noticed was my quad does not show this as a high priority job. It has a relatively small buffer set (.5 days), maybe this is the reason? My two other betas are on different machines and both running high priority. The quad machine is estimating a total run of around 6 hours while the other jobs are on C2D laptops and estimating around 4 hours each. The quad is running an E000370 job and the C2D machines are running the E000007 jobs. The quad machine also shows a deadline of 5 Dec while the other betas have deadlines of today.
Not enough to get that elusive Beta badge. ![]() |

The deadline is quite reasonable, with 3 days. The client will only high prioritize when it thinks it is in trouble and the smaller the buffer the lesser the chance it will be treated as such, particular with the "< 21 hour return" clients.
----------------------------------------[added: This last 370' job now shows 4:50 hours and 19%... due 5th, normal run status]

A little info:
----------------------------------------There are three separate types of workunits for this project. You can see which type it is by looking at: E000000_049A_000109000The types will be 'A', 'B' or 'C'. Types A and B require redundancy like Help Conquer Cancer. Type C return unique results so we will distribute like Human Proteome Folding - Phase II (send out many copies of each workunit, each result is unique, validate based on some error checking we have, award points based on average across some of the results). Have you kept any computer cards? It seems it's lucky I did: ![]() (This is the machine currently crunching the beta WU. You see, there was a reason I put those cards there - apart from trying to reduce the temperatures of the CPU power-supply MOSFETs and inductors so that I don't burn my fingers on them ![]() Looking at the speed of the fans this monster is never going to finish them in time ;>)

For the init 2 types, suffix 2 or higher indicates a repair as would 10 and higher for the init 10 types and those get the 20% deadline rule applied with a stretch factor.
----------------------------------------Just got 2 of those and caused it to pause the other 2 beta's due 2 days later ;0)

Is this new project going to use our puters to try to solve the economic crunch? One Beta was the liberal version, and the other Beta was the conservative version? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 3, 2008 4:16:43 PM] |

Kevin,
----------------------------------------This is going to wrack havoc on the rDCF... durations of 2 hours, 5 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, 25 hours all coming off the same C2D for the same project. Is this including a training session to learn how to cut them to a consistent size? cheers
