Blizzie -- look out behind you! I just felt something whizzing by me! It is all for the cause!I will be glad when/if WCG gets the ability to use the Graphics Cards and Blizzie can coach us on how to make it all work. It sounds like that will help a lot and it is certainly more cost effective. Everyone have a great Friday! ![]() You mean Dataman and Jonathan will. ![]() The last thing I coached was a Canadian little league team. Didn't go well. Anyways, Blizzie's got the right idea. For $250 he bought a GPU that dramatically outperforms an i7 8core. At the end of the day, for crunching, 200+ slower smaller processors trumps 8 fast ones. It was $180 ![]() Indeed. Apparently it works well for Left 4 Dead, which we highly recommend to all who want to know what a world swarmed with zombies would be like. HINT: it's as if Sarah Palin became President. |

Nice milestone Dr. Mike. Great progress! Hope things are working out well for you. brown chris, welcome to the Top Ten. Your efforts are appreciated but don't melt any motherboards.
---------------------------------------- - dc, it's good to see you back again. Drop in and say hello. Marc, keep it up like you are and you'll be our next MOT Millionaire before end of the year and probably before Christmas too. Al, thanks for the steady contribution. Hope you're staying warm. Tomwp, break that record and post again before the year is out! Fanie, hope you're doing better. Too many of us are fighting health problems. Lucie, thanks for adding some mystery to things this year! Thanks to everyone for stepping up and committing to doing all you can to get us to 80 million. I'm grateful for your response. It's quite the experience to "sound the charge" only to turn around to see that everyone has taken off and I have to scramble to try to catch up!!! No matter the outcome, we'll unquestionably end 2008 in style! |

Does anyone know which video card gives the best crunching performance for the cost? I was thinking of getting a 9800GT on Christmas if it goes on sale.
My Quad still needs a new motherboard to be overclocked. ![]() |

My Quad still needs a new motherboard to be overclocked. ![]() It's hard to say, Blizzie. My 8800GT is flawlless. It just keeps running thru the wu's. My 9800GT does more work but occassionally gets comp errors so it evens out with the 8800GT. My 9800GTX seldom worked at all even when I declocked it. If I were to buy another cheap one it would be a 8800GT. WARNING: Do not use the new 6.4.5!!!! It has major problems. It runs 3+1 instead of 4+1 and misinterprets run times by hundreds of hours and won't get new work for the queue. I wish GPUGrid would test this <bleep> before they release it to beta as the "recommended version". I fell back to 6.4.1 ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Dec 13, 2008 5:06:35 PM] |

The 9600GT was supposed to be the core shrink of 8800GT but you rarely get a 9600GT with the 55nm core. I'm waiting for a cheap steal... ![]() |

How hot do your cards get when crunching? My 260 GTX is 58 C overclocked. It's 50 C when gaming. |
