I don't know except that Gimli does lots of work and I think that one needs to run more than 4 simultaneous WUs on this type of quad--likely 2 per core. ![]() I agree entirely that it can pump out masses of work units fast, but did you check the temperature when it was crunching on all eight cores? My i7 has been crunching constantly the last couple of days at only 4 cores, and the cores are currently running toasty at between 65-80 degrees Celsius each. I guess the temperature would also vary on the environment, its currently quite warm over here in Australia and we're entering summer now, so we're gonna be hitting around 30-40 degrees Celsius on a daily basis soon. The simple answer is no. From what I read, there is another small processor built in to manage the clock rate on the real cores around the heat issue while managing the processor heat sync fan. So, I figure it will manage itself. Actually at the moment, I am not even sure where to look for that reading.. I have done it on other machines. When I got this puppy out of the box, I fired it up loaded it up with WCG and within about 18 hours of running partial load and tinkering with Vista's power-saving modes, had it running 8 WSs flat out. Since then, it has done nothing but run WCG 8 WUs at a time and 24 hours a day. That is the way it is running now. It is a dedicated WCG machine. It has consistently been in the high 60sF to low 70sF in this room. The processor fan is running about half-speed and that seems reasonable. In our Texas summer when it gets into the 80sF in here, I may have to replace the cooling heat sync and/or cut down on it's workload. Am trying to help get that 80million points for now though. I use the 9550 as "my" computer where all my programming/web development/financial management/Photoshoping/email/surfing/goofing off is done. Speaking of programming, "Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to work I go" Have a great day everyone! |

While it makes everything else on my system run like $ h i t, BOINC runs super fast. When I first fired up my graphics card for crunching on VISTA it was at least 25% faster than it is now. |

I know it's only been two days but after a day like today.....
----------------------------------------We are at 73,559,026 points. With 22 days to go, that leaves 6,441,979 points, or 292,817 per day, to go. While the per day is a tad higher than two days ago, I believe that may be maxing out and on the way to shrinking. No question if we keep having days like today. WOW!! |

I think our trek at PCHF ends on the 22nd ... perhaps I can drop by then. ![]() As they say on that TV game show - "COME ON DOWN!" ![]() EDIT: Oh, and to state the obvious, you're welcome to bring your friends with you! ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by keithhenry at Dec 10, 2008 3:53:25 AM] |

I noticed that they took tons of hours (11 allegedly) to complete and didn't want to waste any time. I'll chalk my one errored out WU to random chance/my monkeying. They are huge. I'd one take 33+ hours on a Q6600 quad. I think they are trying to compete with CPDN. ![]() ![]() ![]() ATM, I have 9 waiting, one in PV and 2 valid. The valid and PV ones ran on my quad with CPU times of 7.46, 6.79 and 10.21 hours. Some of the 9 waiting are on my C2Ds and are starting to crunch. Will be curious to see how those compare to those on the quad. |
