Hi, first post ever here!
 In my project list something even more strange happened... ALL other projects got deselected and only the rice project was selected.  I must say that I didn't like that. -happy crunching to everybody- |

I have a couple workunits which are reissued, and I notice their deadline is over a week earlier than the original deadline. Specifically, a deadline of May 17, where alll the other hosts have a deadline of May 25 -- except for two who errored out and one other with a deadline May 17th. Not a problem for me at the moment as I'm running exclusively WCG on this host. Later when I let other projects back in, it's possible the 2-day deadline would be a problem. I understand the need for speed on re-issued work, but perhaps it could be normalized to not be so much earlier than the original deadline? Or is it impossible for the scheduler to tell? It's a database performance issue. The query would have to look up the original deadline which creates a db hit. The techs have been tossing the thing around for a while but not come up with a solution. Fortunately the BOINC scheduler is smart and the server daemon at WCG even smarter. If you run multplei projects and start to not return work within 24-48 hours, you won't be getting any of these rush jobs.

Many run new projects anyway for a couple of weeks to pick up the little badges on the left side of the forum messages. I can understand that it is probably a good thing for the majority of members, and that is where we obviously have to focus - but the techs need to be aware that I have been reading elsewhere of complaints and resentment from some members running large 'farms' where they did not want to run the project and were not happy about it being selected for them without being properly informed before hand, and then had to spend alot of time going through each computer aborting them all again. |

Hi sick6slick,
----------------------------------------Think Diana's is different. The claim of 92 suggest she (her computer) done allot more Units of Data or Seeds in 8 hours than your computer yet gets only about 14% of the credit her computer claimed. Yours is a question of how many seeds your computer managed to complete in 8 hours. What happens is that all the claims are summed of the first 14 valid results. For these results also all the seeds are added up. Suppose there is 1000 credit claimed by the first 14 and there are 40000 seeds in the total 14x8 hours of fixed crunch time. Each seed is worth 0.025 credit in that case. Multiply the seeds with that and you get the credit for your job. A fast computer will obviously do allot more seeds in 8 hours. In fact, my computer does allot more than the claim suggests it can, thus whilst the claim is always 121.8 or 121.9 per job, the credit varies from 130-150, depending how well the other 13 did in the quorum. Back in a minute for some checking.... So, your computer is in fact on this very light weight project bringing to surface that pure calculation power is somewhat lower as the ( once every 5 days) benchmark would suggests. Certainly my own P4 was not as good as what the benchmarks suggested, usually getting less credit than claimed. Question to you being: How does the credit compare to any of the other WCG projects? An hour is an hour is an hour so the claim should be constant over a 5 day period. Now, is this a P4 Hyperthreaded machine running 2 jobs simultaneous or just 1 at the time?
