I am going to need some help as I think I will need to upgrade my Boinc client in a few days. I have version 6.10.58 (64-bit version from the Boinc website and not here. I understand the settings have changed quite a bit and it could be difficult find info about the right settings (I may need to go to the Boinc website as the help section here is very difficult to navigate); not only change settings in my desktop Boinc client but also at My Grid here. If you have a new version of Boinc, could you please list your settings and so forth here? If you prefer to email me please do so! Why are you upgrading your BOINC client? The 6.10.58 should be fine unless you are upgrading to Windows 8 or Mountain Lion for Macs as they clearly will not work with 6.10.58. The listing of current BOINC supported by BOINC can be found here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php Go with the "Recommended version" for your OS and figure out if you want the 32 or 64 bit version. It would be good idea to complete all tasks before you upgrade. Disclaimer: As of this positing, BOINC 7 is currently not WCG supported but it should work for WCG tasks. Disclaimer: As of this positing, BOINC 7 is currently not WCG supported but it should work for WCG tasks. This is an issue WCG are aware of and are working on this issue. I am still wondering how in the heck I do NOT have a cc_config in 6.10.58 (downloaded from Boinc (Berkeley) to begin with. It's a 64-bit version. And now, with these advanced gpu scripts from fellow volunteer crunchers .. I wonder how long I can .. Oh well, there are far more important things to concentrate on. Mu gpu card finally came in. I'll need help with a xml script for that. Right now, my work PC is still running great and quiet. oh noes! I am sending back the Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 1GB DDR5 HDMI/DVI-I/DVI-D/DP PCI-Express Graphics Card. It arrived last evening from Amazon and it took 7 days (I ordered the 3-day shipping) because of the Winter Snowstorm Alerts I saw when I tracked it at at the UPS site. No big deal but:
----------------------------------------My invoice was *not* in the box The wrapping of the card was opened The was not the usual 'strip' that protects it from dust and scratches The manual was a like an index card. A small one at that. The English instructions (like the other languages) were 2 small print pages!! Not good!! It mentioned that there was a much more extensive manual online. Oh really! Not even an instructional video to show you how to install this. And even if it did, it would have gone back for the first reasons. I hope I am able to get back on NewEgg (they had login problems when I tyried to buy this same card there. I'll probably check EVGA out. Geez, not much time before they stop the GPU project here. Servus, Co-Captains (fellow Team Mates)!
---------------------------------------- I am very lucky to be at my keyboard at this moment. After sending my Sapphire GPU back this Saturday at the UPS store, I decided to feel better by installing 4 sticks of glorious Crucial 4 gigs each of memory. Yesterday, about 22 hours ago, I carefully installed the memory and then booted up, waiting to hit the F10 key to save and exit. To my horror, after a couple of lights blinked, *nothing* happened, nothing posted. My mighty, rock-solid PC (the best I have ever had) that was built by friend and fellow crunchier (popeyecu who had crunched with us) whose small custom PC builder in North Carolina is called Nordic PC. I believe that (back then, November 2010) Nate was building 3 classifications of PC's and mine was a Thor. Thor, the mighty mythical Old Norse legend! To make a long story short, I called a local (and very good friend Killer Tomato) to try and help me. We tried various things: taking and re-seating ny old graphics card. Then taking out the new ram and place my old ram back in it's former place. Nothing upon bootong up. The, taking out that large round battery after removing that small blue 3-pin connector and re-inserting that. Yes, changing/re-setting the CMOS. Kept getting the dreaded error codes like 0X0000007b (just for starters) trying to boot. Took out one stick of ram, and wham! Was able to get into the bios. It looked 'normal', then I put in the other old stick of ram. Error message continued. Choices between: Would you like Windows to fix this? or Startup normally? btw How come you didn't buy a Mac? Well, Windows could not fix this. KT and I thought that it was good to be able to get into my bios and agreed that I should call Nate about what config in the bios was wrong. It was driving me crazy after I shut down my PC. 20 minutes later, I had to startup my PC and go to the bios looking thought wasn't going to lead to a sol Was able to get back to the bios and went looking through ALL the options when I saw what the problem was. I see "Profiles" listed in one of the bios sections went into that and saw a list of 8 profiles that were just numbered. At the top was the 'pot of gold'. The profile named Nordic PC. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At 5:45PM last evening, it came back up and re-started the Boinc client. So far, so good. Not sure what my next step is other than calling Nate pretty soon to get recommendations/advice about the new memory from Crucial and maybe whicg GPU for me and yes, ask about a new PC upgrade. Just in case you don't "hear' from me in either an email or no posting here at the WCG, I am possibly having a problem I better post this while I can.
