@ Ray Remember when most people stated that "ATI IS THE DEVIL"? What's next, AMD drumming Intel? ![]() JC, Yes I do remember that statement. Both NVIDIA and AMD have their issues, ATI/AMD has had its historical (current?) fair share of poor software and driver support. Based upon my recent experiences, current AMD drivers crash more frequently and need some baby sitting as compared to NVIDIA drivers. Remember, neither is perfect as they both have their histories and issues. Hi all, it is posible to increase the output work for muy computer? I have read ' perfiles de dispositivos' ( device profile) , I have asigned 'maxium output' but I would like to increase this output at nigh, how to do it? Gracias, thanks. Hola, llucilluc! To answer your correction, I can only show you my settings at MyGrid, here at the WCG. There are as follows (expect other Team Mate to perhaps show different settings): ************* (I am using the 64-bit version 6.10.58 from Berkeley, not from IMB World Grid. That may change, I don't know. There are far too many posts concerning which version you should us. I think there are far too wrong ansers. You would think the answer is here at the WCG (well, there is yet it has (current WCG download) *not been* "updated" as per WCG Grid techs last year). Device Profiles Device Profile Name: work Standard Settings: Set my profile to the standard settings Minimum Impact: Set my profile so that it will have a minimal amount of impact on my computer Maximum Output: Set my profile so that it will do the maximum amount of research possible on my computer <--------------- Power Saving: Set my profile so that my computer's power settings can take effect Custom Profile: I will customize my profile using the advanced options and settings, and specify the science projects to run on the associated devices. Set as Default: Basic Options Do work only between the hours of: 12 AM (0:00) and 12 AM (0:00) Connect to the Internet only between: 12 AM (0:00) and 12 AM (0:00) Use no more than: 100 % of processor time Advanced Options Processor Usage Do work while computer is in use? YES Do work on my graphics card while computer is in use? NO (IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A GPU CRUNCHING ON YOUR COMPUTER) Do work only after computer is idle for: 0.0 minutes Do work while computer is running on batteries? NO Stop work after computer is idle for: 0.0 minutes Allow research to run on my CPU? YES Suspend work if CPU usage is above 0.0 % of cpu If you set this value to 0, it means no restriction is enforced. This setting is used version 6.10.30+ of the BOINC agent. ------------------- If you are using version 6.2 of the software, then the number of processors used will be the lesser of the two fields below. If you are using a version before 6.2, then only the 'at most' field will be used. On multiprocessors, at most use: 4 processors (I HAVE A QUAD-CORE) On multiprocessors, use: 100.0% of processors Graphics When displaying graphics, render at most 7 frames per second When displaying graphics, use at most 5.0 % of cpu Disk Usage Use no more than: 10 Gigabytes of disk space Leave at least: 0.1 Gigabytes of disk space free Use no more than: 75% of total disk space Write to disk at most every: 60 seconds Memory Usage Leave applications in memory while suspended? NO Use no more than: 100.0 % of memory while computer in use Use no more than: 100.0 % of memory while computer idle Use no more than: 75 % of virtual memory Network Usage Confirm before connecting to Internet? NO Disconnect when done? NO Maximum upload rate: 0.0 Kbytes/sec Maximum download rate: 0.0 Kbytes/sec Transfer at most: 0.0 Mbytes every days This setting allows members to choose the max transfer allowed over a multiple day period. It is enforced by version 6.10.46+ of the BOINC agent. Workunit Cache Settings Connect to network about every 0.01 days Cache 1.0 extra days of work Project Specific Settings Number of workunits per host for (I have 1 - Default The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2? The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 is limited on how many workunits a computer can have downloaded at a time and what minimum bandwidth the computer must have in order to receive any workunits. Changing this value from the default of 1 will override both of these restrictions. Cross Project Settings Project Weight: 100.0 Switch between applications every: (this one is so variable. I think 3 minutes is the norm but I am not sure. Changes to your profile will not take effect until the next time that your grid agent communicates with the servers. ****************** I hope this helps, llucilluc. ..Can anyone else offer some advice? Besides getting a nice GPU? biggrin More output at night ... Besides the GPU option that I strongly encourage everyone to do, the only other way is to either: 1) Upgrade the CPU for your motherboard. If you are not familiar with the process, best not engage in that activity as you can damage the motherboard, CPU or other computer components; or 2) Overclock you current CPU. That has other risks as you will need a good CPU fan or water cooler solution to handle the additional heat. Standard CPU coolers that come with the CPU are usually not recommended as they are usually not designed to handle that additional heat. Also improperly overclocking your CPU if not done properly may damage your motherboard and/or other computer components. An important setting in the above configuration is: "On multiprocessors, at most use: 4 processors (I HAVE A QUAD-CORE) On multiprocessors, use: 100.0% of processors" If you have a hyper-threaded CPU, you can set the "On multiprocessors, at most use:" to 8 for a hyper-threaded enabled quad core or 12 for a hyper-threaded enabled hexacore CPU. If you set that value higher than what your CPU can handle, this is not an issue as the computer can only go as high as its limitation. Example: a quad core with hyper threading can be set at 8, however you set the setting to 12 to allow your hexacore CPU to maximize its crunching for the same profile. The quad core computer will only use 8 cores as that is the CPU's limitation. Please note if you have a hyper-threaded quad core CPU with a setting of 4, you are not maximizing your computer's potential as you are crunching with 4 threads and not eight. Your run times will increase for a given task, but so will your point totals. Otherwise what JC has above is valid to help maximize your computer's crunching potential. |

Hello all!
----------------------------------------Just about an hour ago, very strange disk thrashing/very slow system response due to Boinc (taking 96% of memory and slowing down every thing: ![]() As the pic shows, in the message section, it stated that if this continued, to reset the project and I have). Still having problems with this after shutting down and receiving re-sent SN2S work-units. Everything is fine when I shut down Boinc. And tomorrow, I am due to put in new ram as well as my new gpu card. Not sure what to do now. Well, I'll post this in the SN2S support forum. Geez, and this 17 860 has been rock solid. Ran the usual systems tests using several sw progras like McGlary and no problems with Boinc shut down. All of this before I put in more (new ram) and gpu card .. hard to believe it. Will continue to figure this out... ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at Mar 19, 2013 9:18:19 PM] |
