All good suggestions RaymondFO. My personal preferences are Sapphire and MSI but I'm also currently using Gigabyte and VisionTek cards and they have been rock solid. I also have a Diamond but I've had to RMA that one twice. The third is fine so far and their RMA process was very good although it took longer than I liked. Depending on your hardware a 7770 when properly set up could produce up to 300k WCG PPD. Let me know what you eventually get and if you need help setting it up let me know by e-mail so we don't tie up your thread here.
----------------------------------------One other thing that I always consider is the warranty. Diamond is 5 years and VisionTek is lifetime. MSI, Gigabyte and Sapphire I believe are 3 years.
In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

![]() The Dialysis is going well, but during the workup for the transplant list, i had3 blockages to the heart discovered. My cholestorol has always been normal, so this was a major surprise. Anyhow had that last year and during a routine nuclear scan in December it seems that now i have 30 % less blow flow than what i had before this all started. So back to more scans and another angiogram. Shrugs, isn't life interesting ![]() Rudi |

because there is no telling how much longer those WUs will be available or if there will be any more WCG GPU apps in the future Yes, I certainly agree with that. I think I can find other uses (other than computer -related purchases) like helping a family member get a new lawn mower in the Spring. And I don't want to presume that the IT recruiting will pick up (to my satisfaction) any time real soon. Well then, that HD 7770 is starting to look more wise financially considering the factors. Thanks Nano, 'tis better to be fiscally conservative in this day and age. I'll just wait for a recommendation from you (and perhaps some config advise as well should I go ahead with this. Here are some suggestions: Diamond Research - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103205 ($20 rebate) MSI - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127678 ($10 rebate) Most powerful card of the list with a core clock of 1100Mhz. Afterburner overclocking is an excellent OC utility. Asus - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121663 ($10 rebate) XFX -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150598 ($20 rebates) All rebate information is current as of 1/31/2013 posting, and this is not a solicitation for any product. The above cards should work well with your 600w power supply and not cause undue strain on your computer as the minimum power requirement for these cards is 450w. This is really a question of which video card manufacturer you prefer, as people tend to prefer one vendor over another for various reasons. For me, EVGA for NVIDIA video cards and my previous AMD favorite is no longer competitive. Everyone will have their own opinions both positive and negative. For me, that would be HIS and Sapphire AMD video cards who are both absent from this list. All of the cards mentioned above are well known entities. Best of luck to you JC on your final decision. @ Ray Thanks for that most excellent choices and the links!! @ nanoprobe, thanks to you as well and yes, the MSI 7700 has very good reviews at new-egg (not that mnay, yet very positive posts. Never an issue and rock solid but their pricing of late was uncompetitive. I have not optimized my Diamond Research AMD cards (they were on sale at the local Micro Center store) but if I could email you later if I should have any problems that would be greatly appreciated. I have not had any problems with those cards and so far they have been reliable. Thank you for your kind offer and assistance. |

The usual 'consumer comment' post; sometimes perplexing. devilish The MSI does have a slightly (?) higher Core Clock (1100MHz). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127678 Also was wondering about the difference between the 128-bit and 256-bit versions of GPU cards as well. I just want a cool and quiet GPU! wink 128 bit cards are inexpensive general use cards that work very well for the casual user. Personally, I will not touch a 128 bit graphic card. IMHO this is a material performance game changer for overall visual and computer usage. Also remember, generally speaking a 256 bit cards are more expensive than 128 bit. Hard core gamers should never touch a 128bit card but rather a 256 or 384 (512 or 768 (384x2) if they can afford it). The higher the bit rate, the better overall video card performance with all things being equal. Anytime a graphic card is too large for the case you may run into other issues with the hard drive, cabling issues, airflow(?), or interfere with some other computer component, and trying to work in the case can be problematic. An inch can make a world of difference and if you have doubts about this, the Sapphire card would be better choice. The additional 25 Mhz core clock the MSI cards offers is not worth it. Feel free to ask any other questions. |
