You dont have to reinstall, just in the OS register a different name for the device and it will proliferate to WCG.... call them David1, David2 or whatever unique name. That allows you to see the results at WCG's Result Status page from which comp they come. So I am not exactly sure how to change it in Ubuntu 7.10 but this is what I found on Google. Will this work? Go to system->Administration->Networking go to the General tab and change the host name. |

Host name is the often used term by BOINC, so go for it.

Well since the machines are dedicated crunchers and have been off since last night because I could not get any more work I decided to go on and format again with a different name for the machine only takes about 30 minutes). I bet this fixes the problem...

Thing is, if a new machine reports by simply letting it know it is one by forcing new credentials, you'd have received new work immediately.... many roads to Rome, some shorter, some longer.

How true. I am not that good with Ubuntu so it was easier for me to start over, lol. Alright I got them going and so far so good Thanks for all the help guys and I will report back latter but I believe this has fixed the problem... ![]() |

And thank you for persevering with this. The information from your problem should help us diagnose similar problems in the future.
By the way, the reason WCG don't consider the MAC is because BOINC doesn't pass that information to the server. |

Hello plewdawg,
Great! So giving each computer a unique name worked. As soon as I saw Didactylos' post guessing that your computers had the same name, I felt dumb. Of course that would confuse the server. That is part of the reason it is so hard to use sneaker-net with BOINC. Lawrence |

I never thought anything about three machines be identical parts with the same name, I thought everything used mac address's to identify the machines. Oh well I learn something new everyday....
