BOINC also supports multiple core CPU's which are getting to be the norm. Even the Hyperthreading cores will double output in BOINC.
----------------------------------------However I have had problems with the BOINC crashing on old WIN98 machines, yea I know they are out of date, but I am not going to pay to upgrade the OS on old crunching machines, that can't really cover the extra overhead of XP let alone support VISTA. ![]() |

I don't know if you still use those w98 PCs or not, but unused PCs could run LINUX without a problem and with less overhead I guess...
I am using w98 PCs, because I am not willing to pay thousands of EUROs for the window$ version of the software they are running and also save money with it, because I dont have to upgrade these old PCs. The boinc agent runs fine, the only problem is computing power which these old PCs are in lack of. |

It can breathe new life into an old system. But it can't make it crunch faster. I've seen lease return P4s as low as $100 with XP included. I only have 1 machine with Vista (Ultimate), and I don't see anything that would make me want to spend any amount upgrading. XP works fine & doesn't have the overhead requirements of Vista. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

yes, we all got a case of shell shock from that one.
----------------------------------------Oh, we have a new memeber ISIS1. I know him, he was one of my roommates. He wants his own stats now that the grid is kaput. He likes being a silent partner but has a nice p4 duo. Welcome Paul ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
