If you are wondering why we have a sudden larger jump in results returned it's because I have switched all mine over to Genome Comparison for now - the shorter job time allows me to better regulate the loading on my systems, but it has given us a spectacular jump
I have also added another 6 dual core Xeons too ![]() |

THNX 4 the info Roger! I was going to ask which tasks finish quicker to decrease probability of loss on my P3s. I need quicker jobs, so they dont lose so many hours coz of a blue screen...

These finish in about an hour so are probably more suited to you as they are to me, as mine are demonstration systems sometimes I deliberately provoke a crash or power failure show how the system fails over and recovers.
The good thing is that I seem to be getting the same time/points ratio as before ![]() |

well, my PCs vary a lot in in setup. I've got P3s(only 2), celerons, a P4 with HT, a sempron, an Athlon, an Athlon XP x2 and a C2D 6320 which seems to be very cost effective.
What do you think is more cost effective, AMD or Intel? I use them as desktops, the only server I got is the old P4, not doing much but acting as a firewall and router. I really dont know what to buy nextime when I upgrade the desktops here in the office. |

AMD has been a little cheaper for similiar performance, but who knows how long that will continue. When you're actually ready, we can give better advice. Right now my crystal ball is a little cloudy! Actually I'd be ready anytime, but those PCs are running fine atm, so I'll wait till one of them introduces a native quad platform.
