OET must have made some more work units, since they are only at 17% complete now. Reading some of Sekerob's posts I think they just got some better information from the researchers regarding how much work is left, rather than any new units being added. I was going hell for leather on OET as I was probably going to fall about a week (90 CPU days) short of 10 years, and was going to then switch to UGM which would have hit 10 years with about 10 weeks to spare before its estimated end date. With the updated info, I've switched to UGM which should hit 10 years with about 5 months left to run, then back to OET which should hit 10 years with a couple of years left on it.

Same here ... that research percentage is very helpful to plan the mix. I just got some MCM betas. They were working on a fix for 10,000 bad workunits.

I had a couple power failures here plus I had to turn off the computer a couple of times when going out of town.
----------------------------------------It really hurt the CEP2, which has a long run between checkpoints. When getting close to a power down, I am taking those things out of the mix.

My production has fallen off this week, as the temp outside climbed heat producing electrical items were switched off.
On Tues the temp hit 33.5 degrees in the afternoon and even my mains powered alarm clock was turned off to save the few milliwatts of heat emitted by the power brick. The only thing that wasn't unplugged was the fridge/freezer. |

Just noticed that we passed 150 million Boinc Points yesterday.
That's not a bad amount of crunching for a little team. We've had a fair number of people crunching for us over the years, but sadly not all at once, nor for the whole period. Thanks to all those, both past and present, who've contributed to WCG with us. |

Ho Hum, sometimes it doesn't pay to start on those "little", "simple", jobs.
I've just had an evening where technology has ganged up on me. I've been intending to move things around a bit, but to do this I need a longer network cable. Now this shouldn't be problem, over the years I've acquired a roll-end of cat 5 when some work was being done in the office, a bargain bin clearance strip/crimp tool with some plugs from a national retail chain of electronics components, and also a bargain bin lan tester from the same shop on a different visit, Things started going wrong from the outset, the strip and cut function of the crimp tool was utterly, utterly, useless and after the 9th futile try I gave up on that and resorted to my trusty old wirecutters. After finally getting the wire prepared it came the turn of the connectors, they weren't much easier that the strip/crimp tool, but after many failed attempts I eventually got them in place. The crimp function of the tool actually worked properly (which by this time came as a surprise). Then came the moment to test the cable and I opened the Lan Tester packet and discovered that it needed a 9v battery (not included). After a few moments thought I remembered something I could rob a battery from. The Lan Tester failed to spring to life, I thought it might be the battery so after some thought I remembered I had a spare brand new one for the smoke alarm. After some searching it was unearthed, still no joy. But I wondered if the 9v batteries might be dead (even the new one) as I couldn't honestly remember when I bought them. So I went to find my multimeter to test the batteries and it wasn't working either! Cue another scavenger humt for batteries (AA this time) and after the multimeter got unscrewed and some fresh(ish) ones put in it confirmed that the others were dead as a dodo. So I now need to go out and get fresh batteries. So I'm sitting here at 1.50 am having not yet finished a "little job" I started at 9pm that I thought would take about 15-30 mins. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the cable tested and all will be good. Next time I need a cable I'm going to go have a beer in the pub instead, and just buy a pre-made one from a shop the next day!! |

There must be a reason I haven't checked the bargain bins.
----------------------------------------not much happening here...The only thing I am getting is Zika from what I have picked. It is almost 2 years and I will let it run to 5. I have 3 years worth of FightAids@home.

I am still here, mostly letting things run.
----------------------------------------I now have a risky form of prostate cancer that must be dealt with, PSA 10.6 and Gleason Score 8. Two forms of therapy were offered, x-ray radiation and remote robot surgery. I investigated a third, proton radiation, which has a lot less side effects. It has been authorized and treatment will start as soon as the bureaucracy is all settled. Once it gets going, it means that I will be out monday-friday for 8 weeks with computers stopped and here on the weekends with projects running. Noone would be around to turn them off if there were a thunderstorm. It all looks good and is self contained so far. I just hope that they can get on with it.

Let me offer some encouragement and support. I had the robo surgery a little over 5 years ago and have experienced virtually no side effects. I don't know anything about the proton therapy so I can't offer an opinion on that. Hope all goes well with you whatever treatment you and your doctor choose. Cheers

I hope all goes well with the treatment, and that it doesn't take too much out of you. Cancer affects too many peoples lives, directly or indirectly, and I sincerely hope that the knowledge gained from the cancer projects on WCG can help defeat at least some forms of it.
