Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

Is there any way for us to put pressure on IBM to get this GDPR done? This is getting ridiculous at this point. Who we do write letters to? I'm not talking e-mail... I'm talking postal snail mail from all over the world.
Wow. Six weeks a member and you already want to run the company.

This entire thread is all about finding a way to circumvent GDPR. Maybe you all should start to understand that IBM has no upside by breaking the rules. So you really think that WCG is the only part of IBM that is affected by GDPR? Really? There is a possibility that every IBM employee working on GDPR is smarter that everyone who posts in these forums.

As always: be a member or dont. those are your only choices. A letter? Not even a letter from the Secretary General of the UN is going to make anything go any quicker.

My guess is not really. WCG doesn't generate revenue for them and while this is an annoyance and a PR issue, it isn't a major issue in either respect and the primary goal of the endeavor is not being impeded.

+1 to Citizen422. It will get done when it gets done. As much as I like stats, I don't live and die by them. So, I will just shutup, wait and keep on crunching.
Cheers

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

Part of the problem is that the Principle Investigators don't know about the problem. They continue to get numbers crunched. A short term boycott (i.e. crunch numbers for a non-WCG project for awhile) would make them aware and then part of the solution.

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

A boycott won't even be noticed by the Principle Investigators. And distracting them from their scientific work to solve an EU bureaucratic mess would be the worst possible use of their time anyway.

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

I personaly waited 1 month then I stopped crunching for WCG. Don't know if it makes any difference for them if many people boycott but at least we can show that we are unhappy of the situation.
Like many said before, it's been 2 years they are aware of the change and it was not anticipated. I don't think the change in the system is that much difficult to anonymized the data of people that choosed to opt out.
The legal part can take more time (that long ?), but a technical solution could have been applied in the meantime.
It just show there's a lack of anticipation and management on WCG.

I guess many people in the WCG staff must feels like us and don't understand how things went wrong and still are.

Insofar as I know, no one has ever complained of a breach of privacy by WCG before. If anyone wanted to remain anonymous, they could do so. And now the EU throws a monkey wrench into the works, and you blame WCG?

I am sure there are many more such situations that will come to light over the coming months.
This is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

Exactly!
I didn't ask for it. Nobody I know asked for it.
Normally, initiatives like this are made to please people/voters.
If you made a survey about it, the vast majority of
Europeans would answer
'What? .... Aha! Was that why I was sent that blizzard of e-mails?'

Added: Now I had one more rolling in ...
We take good care of your of your personal information
.... of course you do love struck
*********************
Well, they were late, too wink
I still believe civil disobedience applies
in certain cases - this being one of them.

It's probably too late to turn the vessel now ....

EDIT: Attempt to improve on the layout ....
