Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

So it seems that WCG aren't able to release stats to 3rd party stats sites like bok's stats at Free-DC. That is a shame.

So I have stopped running WCG until this gets sorted out.

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

I just took a look at "First 5,000 Registered Members" for old times sake. Only it isn't any more, and the URL shows why: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewS...erAT.do?sort=registration

What it shows is a list of members sorted by registration date, but since members who have been dormant for too long have now been deleted, and maybe more have asked that their stats not be shown, it is no longer the first 5000 members to register.

Following GDPR, any statistics pages that list members can only include members who have opted to make their data public. We will be implementing a change to these pages to make it clearer that members who have chosen to remain hidden are not included in such lists.

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

Hi Juan,

Yes, yes, I understand. But my point was that I (for one, and, I assume, others) never regarded this as a "statistics page". It was a historical record of the first 5000 members to join. That's why I said that a better (in my view) solution would have been to have kept the list as was, but removed the hot-link to the stats of those members who have been deleted or opted out. (By all means remove the date too, if you consider that too much personal info.) If that is impractical then you will have to think carefully about what to call this page. Indeed, I would argue that it is now completely pointless and would be better removed altogether. I assume it was put up in the first place as some sort of incentive to get people to join, but so many signed up in such as short space of time that it rather quickly lost any real significance.

Just my 2p'th.

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

once i hit certain targets, i may bow out unless 3rd party stats like Bok and Snurk are supported for those that opt in

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

BOINCstats and wcgsig should both have been green lighted to perform their functions after 6 weeks (post GDPR) of waiting by now.
I'm sure there are many others who should have been given legally approved documents to review by the WCG lawyers by now...

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

In 1980 IBM's own internal study concluded that it would take the Company 9 months to ship an empty box. Apparently not much has changed in the last 40 years. sad

1 1/2 months and counting ... wink

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

We continue to be in daily contact with the lawyers. We're equally frustrated with how long this has taken but we don't want to settle without pushing as aggressively as possible for a process that's as volunteer-friendly as possible. i.e. We're focusing on the long term outcome, even if it means extending the short-term inconvenience longer than we hoped. Please bear with us, we're getting there!

Sincere thanks,
Juan

Re: Data exports & status of Data Processing Agreement

Perhaps WCG should reduce its daily meetings with lawyers. This whole situation is both ridiculous and soaked with disrespect to all of us volunteer crunchers. GDPR has been there for 2 years and compliance isn't that difficult. I bet all these daily meetings with lawyers are how to circumvent the regulation. I'm happy that WCG does not hold more precious personal data, because the way it handles the current issue gives me no confidence at all.
