Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I'm a lake trout fan. Not because of the fight but because of the taste. It is one of my favorite fish to eat. Burntside lake just outside of Ely is one fun Lake Trout lake.
Mmmmm fishing. drooling

It is not the fishing I like so much as the fish. I like them boiled, fried, smoked, dried, baked or pickled. They can be fresh or frozen. Mmm, Mmm gooooood !

Cheers

Hello fellows,

about smoked fish...

When I did have time to do fishing, I always use these.
I'm not sure how known these item are on there, it has Finnish patent from 1992. Well it works as easy smoking device, it simply aluminium bag with layers and wood chop between those.
It does not work as good as "real" smoking devices, but it work well enough for me. It was very easy to use, just open it, throw fillet inside is, throw it to oven and just eat fish 8)

I think that I have not been fishing on this millennium...
When I live up on north, I did fish lot with my best friend, but then I move to south and have not have that much interest about fishing.

I have get lot invitations from my workfriend to go fishing with them, but somehow I have always pass.
I do not know, maybe fishing with childhood best friend is so different thing than fishing with workfriend that I have not get become inspired.

Those were I actually guite magical moment, to stay on the lake to all night and get home and eat smoked fish with best friend in the world..

Well, actually I wash fishing with my workfriend lastwinter, but I like more warm summer nights so I did stay on capin and get loaded. biggrin

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I looked at the web site for the smoking bags and I could almost smell the smoked fish. Most of the smoked fish I have eaten has been smoked with apple wood chips.

Cheers

Good part of those smoking bags was that there were almost free of charge on those old days.
Only not so good part of them was that those did not create stong taste, only mild.

When I want stong smoke, I also use appletrees.
I use old refrigerator as smoker, simply putting this kind of electric coil to bottom of it:

Then disk sawed from branch of appletree top of that coil and couple of hours time.
It was wonderful device, it did create enough strong smoke to even large quantities and was so easy use and clean also.

crying More snow on the way...
So Bearcat, do you plow mainly in the northern/western metro? Looks like St. Cloud could miss out on this one. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mpx/
