Cheers

I think ultima_thule has sent the gray weather from Finland. The warmer temperatures are nice, but the grayness looks like November. The snowpack has halved in the last four days. But on the bright side, the roads are all good.
----------------------------------------Don't know exactly what Tim Geitner has in mind for the rest of the TARP money, but I was thinking a Dutch auction setup could work to relieve banks of some of their worst assets and give the taxpayer the best bang for the buck. this would be an alternative to "BAD BANK." The Treasury could offer to buy any assets the banks were willing to sell, but would start their offer at say 3 cents on the dollar. I am guessing that some of banks would unload their worst assets at almost any price, just to get them off the books. The offering bid could gradually go up until say, 100 billion of the TARP money was expended. This would certainly smoke out the worst assets and help to get the balance sheets of the banks back into some semblance of order. Needless to say this would still involve the banks writing off large sums, but in essence the TARP fund would act the same as a liquidator of retail goods. Better to get a little bit for something rather than get nothing. Just a thought. Cheers

Did I hear somebody mention word bank?
----------------------------------------Ou poi what stories I have I actually found myself another very interesting bank, called Advanzia. It is located on Luxemburg and it is "high tech" version from bank. They do not offer anything else that deposit account and free credit card. Probably (I really do not know) they address is post box on some industrial zone. This all of course sound very weird, but if some company receive status of bank on Luxemburg, then it is under ultrahigh regulation from authorities.. Trust me, I know what I'm doing... About bank it self, well. They have deposit account, interest is 6% for first month and after that 4.1% and interest paid monthly. So on this time when €uribors are getting close to zero, they offer is very luring... Withdraws can be made only counter account, so this is always "sub bank" to some another full service bank account. Well, they offer free MasterCard so it is one way use ATM's as bank offices... One another thing that really is good on Luxemburg, is that they can still offer bank secrecy. Here on Finland there is not any kind of bank secrecy, every civil servant from municipal to government level are aloud to access individual bank account. This all happen on last great depression, very much that you fellows are going through right now, they just change law on that way that even municipal desk jerk can access to everybody's bank account. It did lead so very odd situations on beginning. Worst occurs were situation were fellow went to public health station, and they check how much he earn because some fees are tied to income level, they found out that fellow has actually real job or something so they did let him understand next time that he should use private doctor. That is of course ridiculous, it is not reason why somebody should not be able to use public facilities because he pays lot of taxes.... But it was here. After that surge of request, bank start to inherit fee from every request that they get, so it did limit of using this card... After EMU membership, there was no way to stop open foreign bank account, so those did provide some protection to privacy. But once again, all incomes in Finland are public knowledge How much somebody earn here is on everybody's access. There is actually yellow paper called "Taxcalendar" were they list every municipals tax information, and sells quite well. it seems that everybody is very interested to know what is neighbour salary. So all those foreign bank on EU area will provide information to local tax authoress and it will all end to Taxcalendar... But there is three country that does not aloud breaking of bank secrecy, those are Luxemburg, Austria and Belgium. Switzerland is not on EU. They never accept those laws that would obligate them to report individuals... They will collect withhold taxes as another EU countries, but they will report collected taxes as one big amount, so individual privacy is fully protected. Banks banks I <3 banks Edit: Advazia -> Advanzia Accumulated Points: 35,228,492 ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Feb 12, 2009 2:44:48 PM] |

Hey minnesota crunchers, have any mac crunchers on board? Left my last team for lack of participation so shopping around for another team. Am from minnesota, by St. Cloud. Curious how mac mac users are crunching on your team. Currently running an octo and quad mac pro.

I have 2 PPC mac pro's. 1 G5 and 1G4. Don't know how long the PPCs will be supported. I think gollumer has a Intel mac book pro. I dropped to 40th place I wish for those glory days when I was in the top 15th overall. |

I think ubuntu still supports ppc.

Hello Bearcat. Yes I am in the St. Cloud area. If you are running macs, brink is your guy. I don't run any macs, but an assortment of castoff PIII's and P4's with one AMD. Feel free to look around, throw in your 2 cents worth and enlighten us with your wisdom.
