Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Nice 50 yr badge on OPN, Sgt. Joe. I hope we can get to 100 yr badges on this project. Its a personal vendetta since the reality is this is the scourge of our time right now. I got a late start due to finishing up badges on other projects but will crunch this one as long as possible. Having this disease is not fun for some. Crunch on, team.

Edit: Also noticed mclaver already has a 100 yr. Wish he would drop by here more often. His healthy contributions are appreciated.

Thanks. I have about 40 years to go to get to 100 years. I will be sticking to it until we get this under control. The 100 year badge is nice, but is not the reason I crunch. It is almost my main priority right now. I have one machine which is running 1 MIP unit per 24 threads, because for some reason it started to throw some errors if it was running all 24 threads on OPN. I agree that this disease can be quite devastating for some, while barely affecting others. The sooner we get a handle on this dirty rat the better off we will be. The ultimate goal is to get as many people vaccinated as possible, bu we will still need some viable drug options for those who do get affected. In addition, since this thing is mutating, we need to learn as much as possible about it to help mitigate any further damage it may cause in the future.
The more we know about viruses in general can also help us when the next unknown virus may make the jump from animal to human. It will take a lot of work to try to stay one jump ahead of any of these infectious agents.
It would be nice to hear from mclaver once in a while, but he lets his machines do the talking for him. He must have quite the setup, not to mention quite the electric bill. We certainly do appreciate his efforts.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I was able to get the Nvidia Quadro installed. Both the embedded Intel GPU (Haswell) and Nvidia Quadro are visible in BOINC and ready for Open Pandemics GPU! Right now, I am testing it on einstein@home, trying to unlock the secrets of the universe. BTW, there is a Minnesota Crunchers team there as well.

EDIT: I am switching over to folding@home once my einstein@home tasks burn down. Right now, the Intel GPU takes about 5 hours, the Nvidia Quadro takes 40 minutes for the same task.

Fortunately, mclaver has his clients made public. You can see his client list and the hardware specs (click the client link), here

I think Brinktastee started the team on several other projects. I have only done WCG and have not participated in any other projects. So, I do not have any idea who might be the Captain or founder of the other projects where this team exists. It would be kind of interesting to see what those projects might be and who is crunching on them. Is there one on Folding at Home ?
Cheers

Yes. There are a few teams from MN on Folding@home but this one is most closely aligned with our team name here at WCG, and features a few of the members from here as well, including me.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Managed to sell my Xeon cruncher. It was the lowest output machine and decided to consolidate down to 2 Ryzen systems for now.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I almost had a deal for a dual Xeon E5-2450 for about $200, but missed out on it. That would have been a good replacement for my dual X5650. I am going to keep looking.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks Sgt. Joe.

While points are not the reason we crunch, it's nice to have some metrics and satisfaction as to the work being done. Looking forward to continuing the computing fight for the betterment of human kind. Good day.
