Now that there is some history to pull from, the stats on the new 5900x cpu has been over 200k ppd. Compared to a single Xeon E5-2697v2 (also 12c/24t) which is doing around 100k ppd, it is easily double the output. A dual Xeon system with 48+ threads would probably be comparable in output. I actually wanted a 5950x which is a 16c/32t processor but they are hard to come by right now. Good day. That is impressive. Wish I had one Cheers

Still floating about 22 pages of Pending Validation for the past few weeks, pretty steady; versus 130 some pages of Valids.

This new Zen 3 architecture does the most work, clock for clock, of any out there now. Power consumption is good as well since its on a 7 nanometer process node. So far, its a great cruncher. Now that there is some history to pull from, the stats on the new 5900x cpu has been over 200k ppd. Congrats on the new system! If you would be comfortable sharing it, do you happen to know what your total system power draw is under sustained full load? I'd be really curious to see a rough calculation of WCG points per kWh on these new Zen 3 chips as I've also read positive things about their efficiency. |

I'd be really curious to see a rough calculation of WCG points per kWh on these new Zen 3 chips as I've also read positive things about their efficiency. No problem. It shows around 250 watts at the plug, with a manual 4.1ghz all core clock at 1.175 vcore. That's total system consumption; it was also running a graphics card (at idle), 4 sticks of RAM, 2 SSD's, the motherboard, and about 5 fans. It will depend on project and O/S too, but recently it's been about 215k ppd / (0.250 kWh X 24 hrs)= 35,833 points per kWh. Hope this helps. Most of the systems I've been running WCG on the past few years have been in the ~23,000-27,000 points per kWh range, so sounds like the 5900x is ~30-55% more efficient than those. And even more impressive with how powerful a chip it is. The two exceptions that I've tested are a laptop with an Intel Core i7-8650U processor that was around 50,000 points/kWh and the new Mac mini with the M1 chip that seems to be around ~63,000-68,000 points/kWh. Both of those machines are nowhere near as powerful though as the 5900x - the laptop was doing ~30k ppd and the M1 Mac mini somewhere in the ~35-40k ppd range. Thanks again! |
