Wish I could have gone to talk with them (the IBM people), but just could not get away at such short notice.
----------------------------------------Steady rain today. No thunder or lightning, but had a power outage anyway. Royal pain in the neck just to reset clocks around the house. Only two computers failed to come back up on their own. Cheers

Fired mine back up due to cold nights instead of turning on the furnace. Looks like it may be on a few more weeks.

Only a few more days of school left so that should quiet down. I am almost caught up on my lawn mowing after spending almost as much time fixing mowers as using them. I at least have part of the garden in now, having planted potatoes yesterday. It had been too soggy to get the garden tilled until a few days ago, I am still behind on getting the rest of the garden in. Gradually I will get caught up, but then I am sure something else will come along that needs doing.
----------------------------------------I found out my Dell T7400 with dual Xeon E5410's started throwing hiccups. I had it doing MCM and HST. It would get 1 or 2 HST per day. However, it started rebooting itself apparently randomly. I know this because the BIOS forces me to press F1 to continue or it just sits there. I narrowed the problem down to the long HST units. After suspending any new work and the HST units and letting all of the remaining units finish, I let the remaining HST units run one at a time. Even with only one unit running and nothing else active, the system would crash. I changed the profile to only run SCC and it has been running flawlessly ever since. I ran Memtest on it in case it had a bad memory segment, but that ran fine with out noting any problems. I guess I will just keep HST off of that system. Cheers

Have you looked at the log files to see if it shows why it rebooted?

Have you looked at the log files to see if it shows why it rebooted? No. I am not familiar enough with log files on Linux to even know what I am looking for and as long as it runs the other projects without a problem I did not want to spend the time - too busy this time of year. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers

Finally made it to 10 year badges on both HSTB and SCC. Quieting down now for summer season just running a limited load of work units.
I had restarts every few days on HSTB Linux on my temporary machine as well. Just assumed maybe it was overheating once in a while, was running 24 of the units at a time for a while. Only that rig had trouble with it the other Linux one would keep crunching merrily along 24/7. It wasn't enough of a nuisance to dig deeper on, as I'm not currently contributing to that project. Stay cool and hydrated out there. |

A big storm moved through the area this morning. We lost power a little after 8:00 AM and now finally have it back about 45 minutes ago. I spent the last three hours cleaning up the large limbs (6 to 8 in thick) (15 to 20 cm) which broke off the trees. Luckily none of them hit anything or caused any damage to buildings or vehicles. I will be busy for a while.

Lost power for about 4 hours. My generator came in handy. Got lucky no tornado's.

After looking around some more today I found another tree which had been uprooted behind one of the outbuildings. Yes, thankfully, no tornadoes. The mosquitoes have been ravenous, I think the repellent is only half effective. Anyway, back to cleanup.
