BTW, someone want to turn the heat up outside. To frigid for my old bones. lit a lot of candles and made a virtual bonfire in your fireplace, so let's let our hair fall down and put up our legs and suck up the warmth right into the marrow of our old bones ... Hello Minnesota Crunchers ![]() Well HELLO LM. Glad to see you posting around here again. Missed your kindly posts. Ahhh, the cocoa tastes great (little spike of brandy) and the candle heat feels great. A relaxing way to enjoy the fireplace with you. The bones feel better. Thanks.

That 7870 will do more. Mine is doing 8 with crunching times around 8 minutes or less. Running 4 GPU tasks plus 2 CPU tasks at once results in the GPU tasks finishing in 6 minutes exactly. The Catalyst Control Center shows the GPU as 90-100% utilized the whole time so I think I'll leave it as is. CPU is a Core i5-2500K at 3.8ghz supporting the 7870. The other machine (server) is a Q9550 @ 3.0GHZ with the 7770. Running 3 GPU and 1 CPU WUs on that one. EDIT: Also have a new Toshiba laptop with a AMD A8-4500M APU that does GPU tasks. Only one at a time because even that makes the Windows UI laggy LOL. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 24, 2013 2:43:24 AM] |

Looks good on your i5. I'd leave it to on a quad core. Thought about trying .5 for cpu but wasn't sure if there would be issues. Any hang ups using half a cpu core for your gpu wu's? I have a 3770k I wouldn't mind trying it on.

I have a 3770k I wouldn't mind trying it on. The GPU tasks all use about 25-50% of a single core (6-12% overall) except at the halfway point and at the very start and very end of the WU, at which point they use an entire core for 10-20 seconds. So, generally the GPU is the bottleneck, CCC reports it as 90-100% utilized nearly all the time. I have to say though that the 7000-series Radeons are great from a performance/cost and performance/watt standpoint. Especially my 7770, got that for like $90 on a Black Friday sale! :) My UPS reports the wattage drawn by the PC, and my Core i5 @ 3.8 ghz with the 7870 crunching like mad only uses 275 watts AND this machine also has seven hard disks in it! Thanks. What are you running the 7870 at? My sapphire doesn't like to go above 1000. Tried 1100 twice and both times I find my cruncher BSOD. Zero issues @1000. Not sure but maybe have to bump up the power to +5 or +10 in CCC to see if that helps. Will give it a try at .5 CPU and bump it up to 10 or 12 to see what happens. Only crunch with the GPU on the 3770k rig. More points

Looks like our warm up will be short lived. Another deep freeze coming up. Brrrr.
----------------------------------------LM, will have to stoke up that fire more to keep the old bones warm. My turn to pour the cocoa, with a tad spike of brandy.

Balmy -9.5 C here in Denmark - that's 15 F I'll put lots of logs on the fire, Bearcat, and plenty next to it, and I look forward to that spiked cocoa. You will use whole milk, right? Can you tolerate milk at all? |

Almost identical here today 14F(-10C) but forecast for -10F(-23C) tonight. Then warming for a couple of days. I am counting our blessings here - saw the Fairbanks Alaska forecast for Sunday - the high is supposed to be -40F(-40C) with a low of -52F(-46.6C).

It's warm here today (already 22F and headed for about 40F). They're forecasting ice pellets and freezing rain for Sunday -- my least favorite winter weather.
