BIG WOOT to Brinktastee. Over 50 years for the team. Way to go Cheers Thanks. I'm almost that old Boy O boy is it cold! It's already -7 F here in the 'burbs of Mpls. My buddy is up north this weekend, near Bemidji, and it's already -15 F there, going to -32 F tonight. That's just a bit cool for me. Unless of course I'm in a fish house on the lake. ![]() |

Had -22F (-30C) this morning. This is the anniversary of the last time it reached -40F (-40C) here - 1994. I believe that was the day Gov. Arne Carlson closed the schools for the whole state. So in the big scheme of things this is not all that bad. Really, this is to be expected this time of year. Does not mean I really like it though. Had to put an additional heat lamp in the chicken shed because one heat lamp just does not keep the water open below about -15. The good news is it is expected to be above zero by about Tuesday. According to todays paper we average about 4 days per year when the low gets to -20F.
----------------------------------------Stay warm Cheers

The high temp today was a balmy of 2 degrees above zero Fahrenheit. Had to be much colder where you are Sarge. Just pored myself a dram of Glenlivet French Oak Reserve 15 year to warm the bones. Going down to -12 F tonight..... A warming trend is in sight though. 35 ABOVE!!! zero F for a high on Sunday. For now, "A WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT THROUGH 9 AM THURSDAY MORNING FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA AND WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN. WIND CHILL READINGS DURING THIS PERIOD WILL BE BETWEEN 25 BELOW AND 35 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND WIND WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES. KEEP EXTRA BLANKETS AND CLOTHING IN YOUR CAR IF YOUR ARE TRAVELING." Global warming...I wish!! |

It could be worse. I just try to think of this time of year as our annual gift from Canada. Some years they are just more generous than others. 5 weeks to March 1. That always means spring is near. Unfortunately that is also the month with the worst snow storms.
----------------------------------------Have a little nip of that well aged 15 year old oaken spirit for me too. Had to be much colder where you are Sarge. Generally speaking about 4 to 5 degrees cooler than the Cities. Sometimes a little more so. Cheers

It's -10 F with a 10 to 20 MPH wind with higher gusts. That's a wind chill of -30 or colder.
This is cold that just hurts when you walk outdoors. For a college elective my boy is taking a snow boarding class. Yup, he is on the slopes as we speak. He's NUTS!!!! |

Kids. Hope he dressed appropriately. Frostbite is no fun. At least the cold will make the slopes very slippery. Hope he has a good time. Extra heat lamp in the chicken shed tonight jus t to keep the water open.

He did OK. The instructor has a good head on his shoulders and gave the students plenty of warm-up time, thank goodness.
Looks like were going to warm up in the 20's by Friday. Long range forecast shows a week or two of teens to 20s for highs. Got in some new Lenovo PCs at work. M57 Thinkcentre's 2.2 Ghz core 2 duo. They rip through a DDDT work unit in about 49 minutes. The group of us have been trying to talk the company into partnering up with WCG. We are going to propose it soon. Got all the partnership info from the fine folks that work here. If that happens MN Crunchers will take a hit in the daily points and such since most of our PCs will have to run on the company's team. But they will be a force reckoned with if it goes through. |

If you can talk the company into the partnership, more power to you. The important thing is the work gets done. Those appear to be sweet little machines you have in your upgrade. Cheers

I hope to hit the 50 million mark in points tomorrow. Took a little over 2 years. With the speed of the computers these days it should not take too long to get to 100 mill. Also got my sun badge today.
