Having shoveled my share of snow, I agree with the premis that several shovels of different types are necessary. The snow pushers are fine if the snow is light, but the all aluminum ones get trashed pretty easily. the plastic ones will tend to crack, especially once the temperature hits 0F (-18C). Steel snow pushers work pretty well, but you have to pound the corners down periodically as they tend to turn up. The aluminum shovels with the steel reinforcing wear bar on the bottom probably give the best bang for the buck. Once the rivets on the wear bar are gone, teh wera bar is usually also shot, so recycle the steel and aluminum and save the handle to make a stake for your tomatoes in the summertime. For the really heavy snows, it is hard to beat the aluminum grain scoop. They are light, hold a good amount and hold up for several years. The #10 and #12 seem to hold up better than the #14's. The #14's tend to crack in middle. Besides, once you get a full load on #14 of packed snow, it is really heavy. You can't throw it as far as you can with a smaller shovel. It also makes a difference if you are shoveling off a dirt driveway vs. a concrete one.

Wow...
What about the (not so) trusty snow blower? If I could get mine to run, and then stay running, I would throw the shovels away. ![]() |

Yea, got one of those also. Really like it when it works. Don't like it too well when it throws a belt when you're half done. Always an interesting proposition trying to get it back on before the warmed up slush freezes everything solid. Seems like all the preventative maintenance still can't prevent some breakdowns. So far so good this year.

What a gorgeous day today here in the Twin Cities. 46F degrees on December 16th. OH YEAH!!!! This was a quote from brinktastee on 12-16-2006. It would have been kind of nice to have seen that kind of temperature this year about now instead of this below zero stuff every morning for the past couple of weeks. Might, emphasize might make the upper twenties in the next few days. ![]() Cheers

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT WE HAVE JUST PASSED 200,000 IN RESULTS. GOOD JOB TEAM !!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers SWWEEEEET!! ![]() I lost a few PC's last week due to people being let go or they quite so the PC gets shipped back to IBM leasing. I'm eagerly trying to find replacements...we will see how that goes. I was going to try and drive up to Duluth today but they expect 7 to 12 inches of snow with 30 MPH wind guts...Not too fun to drive in. I think I will stay home and do some online shopping instead. |

I had to go into work for a little while today, this afternoon. The roads, and the visibility were the pits. Anything faster than 25 mph was stupid. Fluffy snow on iced over roads. The problem was not getting going, it was stopping. It should be better tomorrow when the wind dies down. It actually felt like winter today.

4 inches of snow with 20 to 30 MPH winds here today. Went to a nature center today just to sit and watch wild turkeys and deer from the comforts of the heated nature centers observation rooms. Very relaxing. Right now it's 11 degrees F with a sustained wind of 13 mph. I'm going to sit back and watch Les Stroud (survivor man) on the discovery channel on my new 40 inch Samsung LCD TV.

3 more inches of snow tonight...I may have to break down and buy snow blower/thrower that works. I just can't get myself to part with the 500 buck or so for a new one...
