Re: Minnesota Crunchers

The cool front is supposed to come in on Thursday. Hope the storms stay minimal. Boy, talk about hot today. Tomorrow is supposed to be worst.

WCG had an article I thought I would share...

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Temps staying high (or gradually declining) means no cold front which means no big storms.

Really don't need a cold front to get storms, any front can set them off.
All the storms up north are from a stationary front and can become severe.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

All time record high dew point and heat index set yesterday in Madison, MN
I was born just a few miles from there in Appleton, MN

Highest dew point 88 °F (31 °C) July 18, 2011 Madison, MN
Highest heat index 126 °F (52 °C) July 18, 2011 Madison, MN

We will see if we break this record today or tomorrow.

Had a rotating thunderstorm go right over the MSP airport today.
The rotation literally went right over the airport. You could see it trying to lower into a wall cloud but just did not have enough sheer in the atmosphere.

Predicted high for tomorrow in the metro, 100 degrees! STAY COOL!

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

When that system went by east of clearwater yesterday, sent some of the weirdest clouds over clearwater. Have never seen clouds roll around like they did. Wasnt sure if a tornado was going to come out of it so kept my eye on it for awhile.
This should be the last day of the heatwave. Just hope the cool front doesnt spark storms. Keep an eye in the sky and stay safe.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I heard not so much a cool front coming as a "dry front". I hope so.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Where I work the maintenance department keeps track of the outside air intakes into our air handler system. One of them told me the outside air entering was 104 F(40C). The official high temp was 98 I think but that would have been at the airport. In the city proper it probably was hotter due to all the concrete an streets. The good news is right now, the dew point is down to 66. and the temperature is down to 82 F (27.8C). A vast improvement. I think I will start my other crunchers going tonight.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Looks like boomers coming in from the west. Falling apart coming out of the dakotas. Looking at whats coming into north dakota looks pretty strong. Hope they fizzle before coming here.
Got my board back from super micro. Ordered a case and psu yesterday from the egg so hopefully have my dual quad 2.66 westmeres crunching by next weekend.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

In the big storms a couple of weeks ago I lost a cruncher to a power outage. Burned out the power supply. Finally had the time and money to replace it. Back up and running now.

Cheers
