Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I have an AthlonXP 3000 CPU with an old Gigabyte mobo and a bunch of DDR RAM, Radeon 9800 I think, plus a 500W power supply that all works together I would gladly part with for $40 OBO. Some misc cables if needed too. No case or drives.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I have 2 xeons 2Ghz I will part with if your interested. 100 bucks. Not the speediest but good work horses.
I can tell the weather is cooling down. Starting to drop in the rankings as folks are firing up again. The other V8 is working part time to help offset. Been looking at 6 core AMD chips, the cheaper ones. Anyone know how well the AMD chips do in crunching. From what I have found out, I cannot put in dual socket, which would be sweet, but still checking it out.

For that kind of money I am interested. I have cases and drives. I will figure out a way to shoehorn it all in. Send me an email to the team website and I will make arrangements.

BearCat: That would be a good deal but I do not have anything I could put the XEONs in. Should I get something I will keep you in mind.

Thanks to all ( You too Dataman for the suggestion)

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hey fellow crunchers, want to share my experience with a ram cooler called Kingston Hyper X. Here is a link.. http://www.kingston.com/hyperX/products/khx_hxfan.asp . This sucker dropped my ram temp 30 degrees. At first I thought 1 would cover maybe 2 ram slots so I ordered 2. Nope. Large enough to cover almost all 6 slots so only needed 1. Kind of large but definately worth it.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Big temperature drop here. Supposed to get a hard freeze over most of the state today. That means it's time to fire up all the 'puters to warm the house.

I'm proud to see such an amazing group of people working to a common goal. (Both Minnesota Crunchers and WCG!)

Speaking of the cold....today is the first day that I've seen the far north song birds in my yard. The Junco's and White Throated Sparrows are here. This is the earliest I think I've ever seen them so early in the fall!
Is this a sign of what kind of winter we are going to have? Mmmm could be.
