New chips came in today. These xeons are great to just drop in. I'll be crunchin with 8 cores after my breakin period. Ah, feels good to have a V8 again.

Thanks. Now to go after HCMD to change that one. Should be quicker with 8 cores chuggin away on it. If it cools down a bit, might give it a little kicker with my mac pro when not in use. Come winter, both will be crunchin. The mac pro really heats the bedroom up nice.

The burn in is complete. Full 8 cores ahead. I see were dropping to the 70's later on. Looks like a good time to fire up the other 8 cores on the mac.

With this mild summer getting cool into fall already, I've tweaked one of my 3 quad cores to run on all four cores instead of the usual 3. Also, this new Celeron Duo that will be in my parents' file/backup server crunches really well considering it only cost $49: http://www.allprojectstats.com/show.php?projekt=6&id=1048060
----------------------------------------It's overclocked to 2.93ghz on stock voltage, yet only hits about 52C. Once I move that machine to my parents' house and out of my office, I may crank up one more core on the newer quad in the office.

Just back from a three day workshop/seminar. Seems like there is always new items on procedures which need to be followed and then the lawyers tell you about new legal issues and then the regulators tell you about new rules. Of course you are expected to comply with everything and do it with fewer resources and less money. Then you get back to work and find you have three extra days of work piled on your desk. Then you are expected to come back rested and refreshed.
---------------------------------------- At least I am still working. Cheers

It is definitely time to upgrade some of the fleet. One of my P4's is running on borrowed time. I've had to cut BOINC to only run at 25% otherwise it hangs after about 2 minutes. And it hangs solid, no action from either keyboard or mouse, but the power off button does work. I think it might be a bad memory stick, but it could be the power supply is going out. Another of the P4's has developed a bad drive. They are identical boxes. I think I can make one system out of the two boxes, but it will have to wait until the weekend.
----------------------------------------Maybe I will see what Microcenter has in their clearance bins this weekend and finally bite the bullet and upgrade. I really should since I have a Coolscan V and it should have a faster machine than the AMD 2000 to which it is connected for the negative scanning. Cheers

Hey SG!
----------------------------------------Make a list of the parts you need. Sign up with the major suppliers. Put your parts in your wish list. Funny how soon after that you will start getting emails for a "sale" on parts you need. Ain't tech wonderful? ![]() ![]() |
