Validator task outage???

I've got several completed WU's now where all users have Pending Validation status. I know that there are short periods where the validator tasks are not running. However, it's been about three hours now for the oldest WU. Are we having a problem with the validators?

Re: Validator task outage???

I just got an email from knreed about that. It seems the manufacturer sent the wrong kind of points. Unfortunately, nelsoc didn't notice they were the wrong kind and he dumped them into the hopper. Now the validator's jammed and the torque rotor may be bent. If it is then you know what that means.... no points for anybody for a month at least, torque rotors are hard to find.

Re: Validator task outage???

I've got one...knowing they are in short supply put them out on eBay. Bidding will close 00:06 UTC, so if acting quickly, u might get ahold of it, put it in and have the WU's validated......specify the right size though as otherwise ther's the risk of inconclusives..... biggrin

seriously I've stopped asking on the matter......there is a post by knreed that lays out that in circumstances it can delay all the way to after 19:00 UTC and recently had a case that dragged it to the next day.

More of concern was that the torque rotor the other day overspun and gave me 322 WCG points for no reason...zero WU's on Pending state or anything..... laughing

ciao

PS.....the scirrocco straight from central Sahara is heating things up nicely here....try to stay cool blushing

Same story, all my units returned today are "Pending Validation" (except for 3 off which were returned during the night).

Stan and Oliver, everyone knows if you jugglewhiz the framinator using the whowhatzit, they'll run just fine. laughing

Seriously, as good at the WCG techs are, they aren't omnicient. Sometimes, we'll spot something before they do. The points will come in due time. No worries there. Also, this may hopefully avoid a few of the 432 variations on the same thread biggrin

Re: Validator task outage???

Hi KeithHenry,

U R the second person I ever encounter of native english speaking origin to use the 'omniscient' word. First time the person, who shall remain anonymous, claimed to be. Now, not omnipresent i could understand, but that is a scary word admittedly, for many have not recognized that the omnipresence of George Orwell's 1984 has long been created, or should i say, Homo Sapiens having adopted very bad habits of re-recreating the omnipresence.....sadly, those come i'd like to think from another book of same author......the Animal Farm...... enough about the regression to Homo Erectus.

Back on the real topic and your pre-emptive post, seen too much again in BOINC logs:

a: 06-08-25 15:09:35|World Community Grid|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 507]
b: 06-08-28 19:16:45|World Community Grid|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 505]

....would that have anything to do with the validators/assimilators not being in sync with expectation?

Just as i posted, Nelsoc messages that the FAAH validator was down! Anyone having delays on HDC's?

ciao

Re: Validator task outage???

The HDC validator continued to run and there was no interruption in validation for that project.

There is a bug in the validator that stops it from processing work that shows up about every 3-4 months. I haven't quite been able to pin it down to fix it yet. This bug reared its ugly head again today and as a result validation was stopped for the FightAIDS@Home project.

No points or results were lost due to this problem. It merely resulted in a delay in validation being performed (and therefore a delay in credit being granted). Everyone has now been awarded their credit and we are now current.

Re: Validator task outage???

Have WCG run out of torque rotors again? wink
It seems that there is some kind of problem with that validator again. Only 3 out of 28 units which were returned today are valid. All the others are Pending Validation.
