My Orange Mobile Phone

For those who frequent this forum you will know of my ongoing general rant with Orange re: their free upgrade and 10% off my Bill.

Followers of this rant will know that I have had my free upgrade to a C600 Windows Mobile 2005 Driven device and I am already receiving my 10% discount.

Orange kept ringing, at one point almost every day, offering me my free upgrade and 10% off the bill.

Eventually I rang up orange and asked to be removed from any promotional databases they may have and this reduced the calls down to one every couple of weeks...

I've just had a call from 0015164083222, an international call. They say it's Orange and would I like to take up the free offer of an upgrade and get 10% off my bill..........

I enquire as to where they are calling "You are calling from the States aren't you?"

"Yes Orange have set up a new call center (er for the states wink) in the US of A......"

They now harass me from the other side of the Pond

Is there to be no escape from this madness?

Dave

Re: My Orange Mobile Phone

Dave, yes, there is.....most latest generation mobiles permit friend, work, family or foe tones....if u know the number, u can give it the silent foe tone....this way u wont even be woken up if the [expletives] call u in the middle of the night.

PS u can buy at iTunes actually a track for 99 pence that is 3 minutes silence....talk about being conned out of your money....it is DRM protected, so only playes on an iPod biggrin

ciao ciao.

PS, presuming these calls don't cause u any cost (international cell calls do that here), you could make it play an occupied tone.

Re: My Orange Mobile Phone

Hi Sek no cost apart from the sheer pointlessness of it all

If I could invoice them at my hourly rate for wasting my time they would soon pack it in

It's all of their franchises so that number keeps changing but calling from the States has to take the biscuit.

It's been mobile phone day in Autumns Towers. O2 are now just as bad I've been on the phone (land line) for about 2 hours trying to get a faulty phone replaced on the insurance I paid for to 02 online at the same time as buying the phone.

You know it's going to be a nightmare when they ask you for the mobile number and then they say "Nope no record of that number here..."

I ended up going to the 02 shop in town and still they can't help me. The shop assistant rang through and went through the same rigmarole - when they told him to ring Customer Support he looked skywards and said "No point ringing customer support they're rubbish"

LOL

Could someone explain to me why life can't be made to work? You pay for insurance so that come such a time like this everything is sorted out.

What happened to "Yes Mr Autumns a replacement will be in the post today" those were the words I was looking forward to.

Not so

again

Is it just me?

Dave

Re: My Orange Mobile Phone

Have you not considered getting your free upgrade every day, and then selling the phones on eBay? Could be a nice little earner... biggrin

Re: My Orange Mobile Phone

It's not just you. I'm still waiting for a response from O2 after I sent them an official complaint and started withholding payment.

You'd think they might get the message when they realise that they aren't going to get a penny out of me until they refund all the money they illegally siphoned out of my account :-@

One suspects their complaints department is a little overworked.

Re: My Orange Mobile Phone

Thanks Folks

When you are being beaten up by the world at least it's comforting knowing you are not alone.

Fraz you might be onto something there.

Didactylos did I tell you what happened with the Hosting company that previously charged me for the free domain name?

I lost a debit card I was using to pay them with - it's automatically collected each month. They sent me an automated email on a Friday saying they couldn't collect the cash as I had stopped the missing card with the bank. I rang the following Tuesday with my brand new card details and they took the money no problem.

Wednesday Morning 6:21am I got this email

Debt recovery administration fee - Over due payment ----- £23.50 VAT: £3.50

Debt recovery - it was me that rung them!!! It would have been daylight robbery if it hadn't been taken out of my account so early.

My enormous overdue debt for 4 whole days was £89+Vat making a return of 22.4% in just 4 days - not bad work if you can get it biggrin

Still no response to my email exchange the last I heard it was

"The resources used in the administration of billing issues of this nature are not available to respond to customer service issues that are not the result of a failure on the part of our customers to ensure that sufficient funds are available to pay for the services we are supplying.

It is as a result of this problem and in the interests of our customer base as a whole that we have decided to apply the administrative charge that you are disputing.

We have taken a number of steps to communicate to our customer base the changes in our terms and conditions. The decision to apply an administrative charge to accounts that enter debt collection was not one that we took lightly and the charge itself does not necessarily cover the cost to us of reconciling the problem.

Unfortunately, I am afraid that we cannot refund the charge."

----------------------

Surely that's what the Customer Service Dept is there for to take a 2 minute call from a customer who wants to pay their unfortunately 4 day late bill ??????

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick

"was not one that we took lightly" a likely story

Kerching! money eyes money eyes

Re: My Orange Mobile Phone

Well, on this side of the pond, the government tends to get involved in industries like this. Also, the higher the level of government, it seems the more likely that they've got ways to complain via the net. Usually, the biggest obstacle is figuring out which part and which level of the government regulates what. In my case, if it involves my landline phone service, that's a particular state agency. If it's my DSL service thru the SAME phone company, it's an agency at the national level. If it's my cell phone service, it appears to be the same national level agency. Get to their web site and there's usually a pretty obvious link to their "File a complaint" page. If I'm in doubt, these days, their "Contact Us" link or a bit of searching on one of the phone number sites will normally get me a number I can call. If you can get beyond the call handler to one of the actual "in the trenches" bureaucrats, you tend to get LOTS of information about who, what, when, where and why which usually gets you going off in the right direction. Complaints filed with the right part of the government seem to get pretty fast attention. biggrin

As for ringing up the offending company, one usually effective technique is to first be sure to get the name of just who you talk to (making sure they know you have that), explain your problem, how they've not been able to resolve it, and that you have no intentions of hanging up until you've talked to someone who can and has resolved your problem. If the poor sap really can't help you, they know they can't hang up on you or you'll have a legitimate gripe specific to them. It's a very good way to get to someone fairly quickly who can solve your problem or knows who can and how to contact them. Invariably, it seems you're dealing with someone at least one or two levels up from whoever answered your call.

Oh, and specific to phone service, anytime I am changing phone companies, I specifically inform them that I want to be placed on their "do not call" list and that of any vendors/telemarketers they contract with.

Lessons learned by experience smile

Re: My Orange Mobile Phone

advice and therapy what a great crowd WCG Crunchers are thank you all

My mobile could not be more off anyone's list if I tried. I was called yesterday from another poor soul who doesn't know better than to call me and offer me 10% off my Bill and a free upgrade. At Orange they said yesterday that all of the flags for "Do not call this person" have been ticked and we have a toothless government agency called the Telephone preference service http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ and I have my mobile registered there too!!

But still they call but maybe just maybe the Internet could come to my rescue if I name and shame each Orange reseller online then maybe http://www.phonesforall.co.uk on 02084758756 (that's +442084758756) would not call again. If all 212,561 of us gave them a call today and offered them the chance of donating their PC time to the WCG Effort then maybe they might begin to appreciate what it feels like ...it's an idea biggrin

I fully realise it's petty of me to even mention this on this forum of all forums as what we are doing here is far far more important... but it's driving me nuts hypnotized and has turned into a personal crusade against what is essentially Orange's problem that they have created a rogue franchise network they cannot control.

I feel a domain name registration coming on I'll just register another one with Fasthosts d oh

how about http://www.10percentoffmybillandafreeupgrade.co.uk thinking
