Hi Depriens So far you are the only person to navigate the DNS servers of the net to find www.wcgwiki.org even I can't reach it yet DNS is one of the great idea's of the net but very frustrating waiting for that info to cascade through all the servers. And now a brief interlude until normal service is resumed and we get on promoting this great project. Are we at 200K yet? Well, probably because I'm with the best ISP of The Netherlands. I have had similar situations more often; some DNS change and I was the only one who could reach the site. This is the third time now. It's about time we reach 200k. WHAT a number! However I think we won't make this number today. ![]() |

Okay then, let's see what we can do.
Unless you want to head straight for the wiki (assigning edit/admin powers to several of us initially, then opening it up as a real wiki once it is off the ground). Or we can work on some static content first, it's up to you. Drop me an email. |

A while back there was a discussion in another thread about using WCG's logos. I can't find that thread but IIRC the gist of it was:
1) WCG's partners are allowed to use WCG logos as long as they comply with the guidelines 2) the guidelines don't seem to be available :) I would like to put a WCG logo or 2 on the wcgwiki site, 1 on the welcome page for sure. What if wcgwiki were a WCG partner? Would it not then have the right to use WCG logos? Regarding the guidelines, if they are not available then we could interpret that as a signal that they don't want anybody to use the logos OR we could interpret that as a signal that if partners use them in a sensible, wholesome manner that promotes WCG then no problem. If we were a partner and used a WCG logo and they didn't like it I'm sure they would tell us first before taking legal action and we of course would either remove the logo immediately or alter our usage to comply with their guidelines. Of course it's Dave's call since he owns the domain and hosts the site. No WCG logos until Dave approves. |

OK yep the Logo issue It's 4am in the UK and I'm up for work (again) and not in a happy bunny frame of mind. Constructing post through just the one bleary working eye at the moment - the other will in join later 1) It's counterproductive to the cause 2) No one is hurt financially by their use 3) It's just plain insane that we can't use them 4) It's been on the guys and gals at IBM's radar for a v long time 5) Those that would like to use them can't whereas those that would wish to abuse the WCG probably already have 6) IBM are aware of my (and a lot of you out there's) frustration re: the logo issue (I've been banging the drum of something like spreadfirefox.com for a very long time) That all said IBM are just a tad busy this week working on project(s) to keep our CPU's busy long into the future which should generate more interest in the WCG in terms of media coverage and hopefully loads of new team mates for team WCG. So I ask for your patience and an amnesty on the WCG Logo this week. Don't worry I won't forget Right where's that extra strong with just the 1 sugar![]() |

Dave, I'm not asking you to push harder and faster. I'm asking you to stop pushing and think about the non-verbal message they're sending you. You're not listening to them and that's why you're not getting anywhere with them. What you seek is within your grasp. All you have to do is reach out and take it.
----------------------------------------They won't give permission because doing so weakens their position in court if they ever had to resort to legal action. You would say, "They gave me permission." They would say, "Yes we did but not permission to use it for the purposes you are using it for." Then it's lawyers writing "yes you did" and "no we didn't" letters back and forth for years at $1000 per letter. They don't want that but that's the door they open if they give permission. They would much rather be in a position to truthfully say "we never gave him permisssion" because then they win the case in 10 easy minutes. You wouldn't have a leg to stand on. See? It's just a matter of NOT asking for permission. Then you can use it. If you ASK for permission then you get the stonewall like you're getting now. So, become a partner, use the logo wisely and they won't say a thing about it. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 13, 2006 4:29:13 AM] |
