Along the lines of the "more frequent reporting" suggestion:
In one case we have a device that reported 2 results every day, except one where it reported 3. Suddenly it is 60 some odd hours since it has reported a result. I'm moderately sure that there has never been a day it did not complete a result, so I wonder where they are going. Some sort of more positive check would be nice to help find out what's happening in these situations. |

33. WCG Agent for Linux, MAC, Solaris, etc not everyine runs windows Answered here: Software FAQ. 34. Delete or reuse a device if you reinstall the software on a PC, you have to create a new device, even if it's the same name, and there's no way to either delete the previous one or reuse it on re-install I'm not 100% certain, but I believe this is currently a limitation of the UD software.

Definitely one of the most valuable features would be allowing multiproc machines to utilize all (or a bitmask of all) the CPUs. I run the tool on a 8 proc machine but stopped just because it's worthless... Now that dual- or more proc machines are getting more and more popular there will be increasing demand for such feature. This question is answered on our Software FAQ page. It's currently a limitation of the UD software we're using.

Just in case it hasn't been already mentioned: The fastest "device" on our team belongs to my wife; I will do better at gaining her cooperation if the "agent" can run withoug pre-empting the screensaver - she would much prefer to see her family pictures flash across the screen. Many thanks (I'm writing this under her username.) Regards, hubby You don't need to run it as a screensaver. Provided you haven't checked "Run only as Screen Saver" on the Agent preferences, you can use whatever screensaver you wish. It will continue to run in the background just fine.

Some complete in a few hours, some take several days. The client does not communicate with the server until the workunit is completed, at which time it will send the result and obtain another workunit.

Here's another suggestion. In the Device Profiles, I would like to be able to block out a section of the day as no processing (middle of the day, don't want my machine running at 100% during the hot part of the day, my study gets a bit warm) but currently you can't start later than you end (I'd like to start at 3pm and end at 12:01pm, thus missing out the hottest part of the day). Shouldn't be too big a fix I wouldn't think. I know a number of other people feel the same way and would like to block out their work hours and just leave the WCG running overnight.

This was fixed recently ------------------------------------- Lost the count, don't know what to number this one, but it comes up periodically: XX. Increase the forum autologout time http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1226 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1331 ------------------------------------- Several of the things I asked about have been fixed - thanks! unfortunately, you can't edit a post that is older than 7 days, so i can't mark them in line, but 32 was fixed with the discovery of the forum profile edit capability, and 35 has been addressed. 23. Private Messages According to http://www.mvnforum.com/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=2592, a release "RC4" of the forum software will be coming out soon, and that will be the first version of this forum software with a private message capability. I do not know if WCG plans to upgrade to that version when it comes out or not, but I sure hope they do, a private messaging capability would meet a lot of needs |
