It seems that the validation backlog may be fully cleared now. Well, yesterday they for sure validated a lot more WUs than usually and considering, that most of us had nothing left to crunch, most of those results were not returned yesterday. Let's hope this will help them with constant WU supply.![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Link64 at Aug 5, 2025 9:15:00 AM] |

It is backup project time. If you are lucky you will get a resend.
----------------------------------------No official word on what is going on, or when fresh WUs will come out. edit to add: I just got a fresh ARP. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Unixchick at Aug 5, 2025 3:29:17 PM] |

One of my systems collected 6 new BETA30 tasks just before midnight UTC!
----------------------------------------There are some caveats regarding running these (which I have now written up in that Beta test thread), but the main features are that the tasks now correctly identify as multi-threaded (so elapsed time reports properly!) and they are testing on a much smaller iteration count (so they use a lot less run time!) Cheers - Al. P.S. to Unixchick re new work -- I'd started using my backup project two days ago and it didn't help me get new work then; so thanks for your efforts! :-) [Edit 1 times, last edit by alanb1951 at Aug 6, 2025 1:16:02 AM] |

Hello all, I'm sure this has been asked but is there a post explaining how to see the list of users for a Work Unit (wingman wingmen) and other insider geekery to garner the health of the projects and infrastructure? Sticky!
----------------------------------------Happy Summer everyone hopefully WCG will become a reliable leader in the DC world as a GoTo for decentralized science and Folding have it's place too but it's not lookin great. When they can run out of work in Summer when many users are not crunching due to heat. Edit; EX: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/752167297 MCM1_0240282_8297 Project name: Mapping Cancer Markers Created: Aug. 6, 2025 - 10:07 UTC Name: MCM1_0240282_8297 Minimum Quorum: 2 Replication: 2 -- So 2 jobs sent out for this WU so far, 1 Wingman 1 primary? Edit; what is 'PVa jail'? Post-verification purgatory? [Edit 2 times, last edit by danwat1234 at Aug 6, 2025 6:26:49 PM] |

Thank you Mark for spotting the operations status page update and posting it to the thread.
----------------------------------------Danwat1234 - I'm not sure what you are asking. If I click the link you provide I can see that 2 people are working on that particular WU. one running MS Win 10 and one running MS Win 11. That's all the info you get about your wingman. MCM always sends out 2 copies of each WU. one isn't primary. it is all point of view. to the other person you are the wingman. When the results are returned the results are compared and validated against each other. If the 2 results come back and aren't compared then it is in "PV Jail", or the date passes for another copy to be sent out if there is a failure of one or both original WUs to be returned, and a new copy isn't issued like it should be. If you read the updates you will see that they are fixing the hardware issues and have a plan but it takes time. It is important to remember that all projects have hiccups. I personally am happy they have a plan, I just wish they had more money. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Unixchick at Aug 6, 2025 8:26:35 PM] |

I understand now wingman, but PV jail is that shown in a WU page such as my example?
WU computed twice or however many times, awaiting validation , or other issues but server is not reissuing the WU to get enough identical results to validate the work? Yes they have a complicated system but today with a disk filling up. Do they have an alert system so they can get to action before these easily monitorable issues become critical? |

I understand now wingman, but PV jail is that shown in a WU page such as my example? "PVa/PVe jail refers to WUs that after being crunched and reported by the host's BOINC client but are not immediately validated, thus showing up on the Results page as either "Pending Validation" or "Pending Verification" (less common). The reason for not being validated can be that either your wingman hasn't returned their matching WU (if the quorum of a project is 2) or the validator process on the server(s) isn't running. The first option is quite common, but usually should result in a WU being validated within 2-5 days, but in case of the later, it will happen (with some delay due to catching up) happen after some admin is kicking the validation process on the server side in the proverbial magic tire. Or they can sit for months in PVa jail as it is the case for some Beta WUs of mine, because the admins have different priorities.WU computed twice or however many times, awaiting validation , or other issues but server is not reissuing the WU to get enough identical results to validate the work? Yes they have a complicated system but today with a disk filling up. Do they have an alert system so they can get to action before these easily monitorable issues become critical? What exactly is the problem is only know to the WCG admins, and they ain't talking for months now... Ralf |
