Re: Regarding ARP1 and MCM1 download issues since ARP1's launch on Monday Nov 4th, 2024

We have decreased the app weight of ARP1 relative to MCM1 in the feeder
You need to decrease it even further, so far not the slightest improvement is noticeable at our ends. Eventally stop the feeder for a while until most downloads complete, than start it again with lower weight of ARP.

Agreed- we are not really seeing any improvement. We had a few WUs successfully process yesterday but all of our systems are still just stuck attempting to download/upload files. They are rarely even successfully connecting to move
a few files.

I just killed 458 jobs of MCM1 because their downloading couldn't be completed since 6th November.

Re: Regarding ARP1 and MCM1 download issues since ARP1's launch on Monday Nov 4th, 2024

I have seen 48 ARP1's end in an error in the past few days. All because of WU download error: couldn't get input files. More than half of these 48 x 11 files (6 GB) were downloaded first.
Even if a download fails and gives an error, the download continues until the error is reported to the server. This usually takes several minutes before that message occurs. A waste of the limited download capacity.

EDIT: I think the error occurs because a checksum is done on a 107-bytes file with the same name as one of the project-files, that was written in a previous download attempt with the contents:
<html><body><h1>503 Service Unavailable</h1>
No server is available to handle this request.
</body></html>

I'm also seeing upload issues now, with "Transient HTTP failure" on even MCM uploads.

Yes, not a real issue though, usually they go through on next retry, they don't pile up like the downloads do.

Until now, the server is still waiting for the download to complete before it can start operations. Errors continue to occur even after retries.

Re: Regarding ARP1 and MCM1 download issues since ARP1's launch on Monday Nov 4th, 2024

10K MCM work units compiled per day can't be right, around 700K are computed per day.
10k seems to be their ready to send buffer, something you see on other BOINC projects on the server status page, which is unfortunately missing here. It has nothing to do with the amount of completed WUs per day.

Could I get a link to the Server Status page? I don't believe I've ever encountered that page. If it is not accessible from the menus it really should be.
I hope I am not contributing to the problem with my farm set to 10 days buffer And I hope those that cannot keep their machines fed add auxiliary projects to BOINC to stay busy! My goal is to give scientists more compute and encourage others to make farms my style, not to hog WUs. I do not have ARP enabled, but MCM, Smash and Covid

The server status page does not exist at WCG. It has been requested many times, but the powers that be have never seen fit to have one.

Cheers

Considering the 6 days deadline for MCM you might a bit as some WUs are likely not started before deadline and need to be resend to someone else. Buffer should be always significantly below the deadline.
