I don't know how big some of the member farms are, but if some have 1000 units requested and slots were held open for them, small crunchers would never get a look in.
The individual files that we are talking about are thousands of times bigger than for other projects. MCM1 are under 1KB per unit. Mike |

Here is another thought and I really have no idea if this is possible. In this project, we are looking at data that covers a certain area. Could the work units be made smaller, let's say halved, if half of the area was analyzed instead of the full area? This would double the amount of work units (in theory) but cut the file sizes in ~half?
I know this is probably not feasible, but one "bad" idea can help create a better idea. Sometimes. |

Farm size doesn't matter, it's always individual computers, that contact the server. Closing and opening connections uses ressources, which could be used for tranfering files, in particular for small files like MCM this should increase the efficiency a lot and with that lower the load on the server. The individual files that we are talking about are thousands of times bigger than for other projects. MCM1 are under 1KB per unit. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Link64 at Nov 15, 2024 3:49:58 PM] |

This doesn't help in any way, the transferred amount of data per hour of computation is the same in best case, likely it's larger because of some overhead. |

There were 2-3 days when I could keep my laptop running MCM even with the download issues, but not since yesterday. Clearly ARP cannot continue to run under these circumstances.

Is a storage server full or something?
I can get a connection, I upload for a few seconds at just a dozen kilobits per second, and it just disconnects again with "11/15/2024 1:43:28 PM | World Community Grid | Temporarily failed upload of ARP1_0017630_132_3_r1133617452_3: transient HTTP error" I bet the server wouldn't struggle to keep so many connections open if it didn't drop contact in a matter of seconds or if BOINC didn't start from scratch every time an upload disconnects. |

Even uploads there is a problem I have 1 file stuck in upload and multiple manual retries did not work. It is possible the filestore is full or something broke.
Paul.
