Re: Regarding ARP1 and MCM1 download issues since ARP1's launch on Monday Nov 4th, 2024

Even uploads there is a problem

I have 1 file stuck in upload and multiple manual retries did not work.
Had one file like that yesterday, could not get it to upload even with many manual retries while all other uploads went through on the first try. Well, today nothing more is uploading or downloading.

Over 10 days passed and the situation has not been improved at all.
I have 35 files stuck in upload and manual retries did not work.

WCG your pissing me off.
46 files. 3 downloads 43 uploads stuck.
Over the last 24hrs I have manually tried to make things move with limited success.
Why can't you guys get your hardware in order? I thought Krembel was going to be keeping you moving like IBM did. Seems the opposite.

It gets very frustrating crunching for this project.

So often down and each time there is a change.
It doesn't seem seriously handled.

Stopped for new tasks , too much struggling to upload crunched files.

Yep, same here, back to Milkyway crunching. If the uploads don't go through in the next 20 hours, I will at least have to try to hammer through the three resends which time out if I don't. Rest needs to be uploaded latest the 21st.

Krembil is ruining a previously good and valuable project. Since it was taken over from IBM, it's going only into one direction: downwards sad
I don't think Krembil has the people capable of successfully running WCG, just too bad sad

Re: Regarding ARP1 and MCM1 download issues since ARP1's launch on Monday Nov 4th, 2024

I set WCG to no new tasks
I aborted all the tasks failing to download
I'm leaving the finished ones that are trying (but failing) to upload. Maybe they'll squeeze through before the deadline.

That'll be the last I'll do for this project for a while. Fix it first. Properly.

The real ruin was when IBM [bean-counters?] seemed to decide that philanthropic projects had a negative effect on the bottom line. It was highly unlikely that anyone else would have the resources (financial, staffing, or infrastructure-wise) to take on the whole WCG load :-(

I suspect that if the current WCG had access to more [and more reliable!] data centre resources (bandwidth and hardware) things would be a lot better -- when the data centre doesn't seem to be having problems, the system seems to run fairly well when it doesn't have huge numbers of OPNG or ARP1 tasks flying around (a problem that can be solved by reduced work creation!), but (of course) no-one remembers periods of relative success :-)

I'd rather have a WCG that has problems on occasion than have no WCG at all - YMMV :-)

Cheers - Al.

They don't need necessarily more ressources, it is possible to run WCG on what they have or even less, it's just a matter of proper configuration of the feeder. The frequency at which the feeder queue ist refilled and the mix of WUs must simply match the capabilities of the entire system. Savas said in the first post already, that they did something about it, but obviously it didn't help and I don't think they tried anything more since than.
