The ARP project will be restarting by Monday November 4, following the technical pause it entered in December 2022. Well, looks like you're getting ahead of yourself, as I had a dozen of my hosts already picking up ARP1 WUs, with all but one stuck in the download retry loop, even for (relatively) tiny files... https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/article.s?articleId=814 ![]() Ralf ![]() |

But, it is the closest we have been in a LONG time! It is a known problem with ARP1, and also a reason why by default, the number of concurrent ARP1 WUs has been restricted. But there are always a handful of rather selfish folks that have to mess with those settings, making things ultimately worse for everyone... ![]() Ralf ![]() |

I wonder how much work there will be staring on the 4th.. I am guessing these are just work units for testing purposes anyways. Once we get the master files for the current application, then things might speed up? At least, I hope. |

Yep, it went offline soon after we really got up and running. Well, not quite. I wonder how much work there will be staring on the 4th.. I am guessing these are just work units for testing purposes anyways. Once we get the master files for the current application, then things might speed up? At least, I hope. Yes, there is, as with pretty much all other projects, some additional overhead to be downloaded, but what a lot of people don't seem to really understand is that EACH WU is BY MAGNITUDES LARGER than any other project, and this is true for both downloading each WUs data, as well as the result that is ultimately being uploaded to the servers. That was something that taxed the system quite a bit even in the days of IBM... Ralf ![]() |

Just a thought, and I could be wrong, since the ARP1 WUs take ~10x - 20x longer to run than a MCM WU, wouldn't users be contacting the servers more with MCM work and requests? I don't remember the exact size of the results from MCM off the top of my head versus ARP1 so I am actually asking a question here- over a given amount of time (let's say 24 hours), what would be the comparison on let's say a 20 thread system running one ARP1 WUs and 19 MCM? I am not disagreeing with what you said (ARP1 WU are larger) this is just curiosity on our end. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Boca Raton Community HS at Oct 31, 2024 10:24:18 PM] |
