Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

It was fun while it lasted, but now the project is shut down for maintenance. They have to bring it into 2025, from 2018 smile

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

We're getting closer to a restart, but there's still the occasional misfire and resulting user confusion -- frustrating for enthusiastic users...

I wasn't really expecting to see any new work before some sort of more "final" WCG announcement than those up to 9th January, given that even when they'd got all their systems back they might need to do some tests and possible snagging. As Unixchick remarked, "Hopefully Monday they can figure out the few leftover bugs", though it may be a little later if the last data centre estimate of 13th January reflects an as-yet unresolved sticking point.

So I am only running one system at present and it is set to such a small buffer size that it will only ever fetch one task at a time (if any); I've been prodding that occasionally to see what's going on (in case my assumption is wrong!) -- I haven't had a request result in a download yet so I had not seen any of those oddball tasks!

Things probably should have been organized so that it wasn't possible to fetch new work at present, but I note that WCG hadn't actually said that work was being issued yet :-) -- isn't there a saying about "the best laid plans..."? At least the present "down for maintenance" state has resolved it for now, and is less annoying than "scheduler not running" (or failing tasks!) :-)

On other matters -- as some have noted, the forums do seem to be more responsive now; it will be interesting to see whether that is still the case once things get busier in general. Also, as for BOINC itself, whenever it does restart, it'll be interesting to see how well it copes with the backlog of returned work...

Ah well, back to setting up to try to monitor any upcoming Beta test tasks in anticipation of MAM1 :-)

Cheers - Al.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Thanks for the report Hans. I see that I have gotten MCM as well.

A big thank you to the tech team that stayed late on Friday to get this fixed. I'm very grateful that we didn't have to wait until Monday to jump back into processing WCG WUs.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

I'm really happy we have MCM flowing well this weekend (Thank you tech team). I want more though.
What do you think will be next? MAM or ARP?

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

My guess/hope!
If we take a look at what Jurisica Lab has written since before the shutdown, my guess is that they will start the beta MAM while is monitoring the system and rerelease the MCM1 results that had an error state.

ARP1?
December 9 they wrote a merging and optimizations to improve wu distribution!

OPNG:??
No news since late summer, early autumn! Will it return?

And new GPU work will come later , see more on the update from December 20!
That's what I have got reading the Operational Status on Jurisica Lab 🤓😉

Ps:

Hopefully we will get some update when Toronto wakes up after the Weekend later today!

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Looks like they are working on repairing the returned WUs. The sent date on my WUs returned when WCG first came up is now also 2018 to make it earlier than the false return date of 2018.
