Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Hi!
See latest news from Jurisicalab: https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/wcg.html

January 8, 2025
Most of our infrastructure is back online. Unfortunately, some issues with the network and specific virtual machines remain. Thus, the BOINC database node remains unavailable, and the website and forums also do not function properly.
Sharcnet data center team is working on to restore access to these instances in priority order.
Once this is resolved, we will have a smooth restart of the workunit management and BOINC components on the backend, and be able to isolate and diagnose any remaining issues as we restart.

The forum seems to be running much faster now.

Good to see people back so quickly. I know we are all eager for some new WUs. I got a new machine, so I can't wait to see how faster I can do WUs. I hope everyone had a good holiday season.

BOINC database is up and in a good state. We are waiting on two more servers to regain access to the network, at which point we will be restarting the scheduler, transitioner, assimilators and validators.
All deadlines for outstanding MCM1 work units have been extended to just after 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 15th, 2025.
Web site is up; stats will be updated soon.
Forums are up.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Good to see posts here again; I'd been waiting for the forums to be stable before visiting again so I'm late to the "Welcome back" party :-)

It has been interesting watching comments elsewhere during the recent outage (especially some of the posts offering opinion rather than information...) -- I soon realized that there was a key resource of which some people might not be aware, the Alliance Canada web site. I mentioned some links to that site in a reply in the News section; I'll repost them here as they may be of interest...

I have accessed their status site in the past to look at what's going on; it was interesting to read various incident items there and match them with our experiences, although because not all WGC problems were the result of issues important enough to merit data centre incident reports it wasn't until recently that I was certain I was looking in the right place :-) -- the relevant facility is currently called Graham.

Recently, an addition to the status page drew my attention to their Wiki, which has an interesting Infrastructure Renewal page about the refurbishment and upgrade process. Again, the current data centre is Graham, but the new facilities will have a different name when live (and that's where to find stuff about the new hardware...)

A happy and active crunching New Year to all.

Cheers - Al.

P.S. I'm not sure how the WCG folks will react to my having posted Alliance Canada links; time will tell...

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

I'm now excited to test their new machines as well as my new machines. It would be nice is ARP could go out without the whole system being stuck in molasses.

They have alot of new to test, so while we all want to begin MCM and ARP again, let's have grace and give them the time to make sure it works well. I think they are close to restarting things.

Thanks for the link Al. Lots of good info there.

Yes, we're back, but back to the year 2018. My newly reported tasks, was reported on 2018-06-24 17:53:41 UTC, which means that the server must have entered into a worm hole.
